Dp and I are taking dd(3.5) to Blue Dot festival in a few weeks. We are going everyday but not camping as we don't live too far away. We've not been to Blue Dot before and this will be the first time taking our DD to a festival. Does anyone have any top tips for taking young DC to a festival like this? Has anyone been in previous years who can say what it's like with respect to toilets and queues, walking distances, food etc?

It's a very civilised festival - you'll have a ball. Quite a few people with smaller ones seem to take those trolley things (like this www.amazon.co.uk/Garden-Platform-Trolley-Barrow-OT1010/dp/B005ZGVSSW/ref=as_li_ss_tl?linkCode=sl1&linkId=8a1e3ebe99554f6f910595551c1bef99)&keywords=festival+wagon&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&ie=UTF8&qid=1463401952&sr=8-11 to keep all their stuff in. Toilet queues are fine, and it's not so huge, but probably big enough that she'll get tired legs if you're up and about all day. If she's a bolter (like mine are), those backpacks with reins might come in handy too.

Anyone know what the food outlets are like? Are they stalls or little undercover cafes (in case it rains)?

It’s nice to get some time to sit down and rest because there is a lot of walking and standing about. DotTalks are a great place to do that – just sit back with a cold drink and enjoy. They are interesting presentations on the variety of research behind protecting and understanding our planet. But if you want to be able to listen and enjoy them, you need something like a sticker book or small activity toy to entertain your DD.
There was a lot of hard smooth grass and proper tarmacked paths and good site planning meant we always seemed to have space. You could take a pushchair if you don’t think your Dd will last all day.
Take glow sticks for the evening.
The food was amazing. From the The Fruit Salad Bar for breakfast to the afternoon churros, and the odd cheeky burger, there was plenty on offer. It was great to see so many alternatives to fast food too – all delicious. There were water taps freely available to fill up water bottles. Take little squeezy bottles of dilutable squash if your DD isn’t a fan of plain water.

Ah it's such a lovely festival! The best I've ever been to I think! I noticed a lot of people with little pull along wagons for DC and all the STUFF. Some had covers which was ideal for full sun. Food stalls were amazing. So much variety. Take entertainment like colouring in and one or two small toys from DC if you plan on going to the talks. There's loads there to occupy little ones too. I wish I was going this year!
