Nursing - at my wits end

Hello fellow mums ... I’m stressed ... I qualified as a Nurse just 3 months ago... as a student I didn’t enjoy most of my placements but I was encouraged to hold on until I qualified as many said my perception would change! However, 3 months in outpatients & I feel depressed having to go to work... I just don’t feel it ... plus the blame culture, gossiping & backbiting amongst colleagues is making me feel more despondent! Anyway my question is what can I do as a newly qualified Nurse with a mere 3 months experience? I’m lost on the way forward ... I enjoy working with figures & used to be a Secretary/Administrator ... please help me ... I’m desperate ... thank you 🙏

Hi
It's definitely tough when you 1st qualify to find your feet. I would say give it 6 months at least. If after 6 months you still feel that way, you can always venture into a different direction.
My starting point would be what are you happy doing? You can use your nursing as a learning curve and foundation into the career that will make you happy. I would suggest having a good think about the direction you want to take. In the end, yes a decent wage is important, but it's whether you are happy in what you are doing. I know many nurses who left nursing to work im supermarkets and are very happy. Others have stayed in nursing and are equally fulfilled. Its all about what gives you joy, peace of mind and fullfillment.

i think continuing healthcare assessor is a fairly niche role but I would guess a lot of it is learning on the job. Its a band 6 post in my mental health trust so might be worth reading the job description. I've been a nurse for 19 years and did briefly consider that post but I would miss clinical care too much.

I would suggest ward nursing. I think out patients is maybe a little bit where nurses move on to later in their career when they want to slow don the pace a bit (apologies if I offend anyone).
