Help with Halal meal ideas

I'm hoping the amazing power of mumsnet can help me!

One of my DD's friends Mum is having a baby, due in the next few days. They're newish to the area so don't know loads of people and their family aren't around for support, so I'd love to make them a couple of meals to have in the freezer once the new baby is here. The only problem is that I haven't had to cook anything to halal standards before and I don't want to stuff it up by adding in something I shouldn't.
Could you please all hit me with your best halal friendly, batch cook-able, freezable meal ideas? (I should add that I'm fairly competent at cooking but I'm not exactly the next masterchef contestant, so if they're easy recipes that would be even better.)

No Pork. No Blood. No Booze.

That's it.

Halal meat.
No pork, no booze.
After that, anything goes.

Maybe look up a curry recipe, that would freeze well. Make sure the meat is halal and also check cheese and cream for the renet and gelatine as that can be ify. You should be able to google and find out which brands are ok and then let your friend know you’ve used that one

Anything vegetarian is halal friendly. As long as you're not using alcohol in cooking you'll be set.

All New Zealand lamb is halal so a nice lamb casserole should go down well.

Just make whatever you usually make but with Halal meat. Did you mean curry recipes? I do chicken pasta bakes, spaghetti bol, steak, shepherds pie etc... all with Halal meat. It's still just meat

Keema is a good choice as it’s basically spiced lamb mince and can be turned into anything, like chucked on pasta,
In a wrap, over pirates etc.

Batch cook and freeze in portions and yes all NZ lamb is halal.

lots of ideas thank you. I know that you need to make sure the meat is halal but as Imtootired mentioned, I wasn't sure if there were additional ingredients to consider, I wouldn't have thought about gelatin or rennet in cheeses.

If you have a particular recipe you're really good at then do that but with halal ingredients.

Are they Asian? If so If would stay away from Currys unless you are amazing at cooking them. Maybe ask what they like to eat... a few of my Muslim work colleagues love a lasagne or shepherds pie when we work together becasue they never eat them at home.

x2boys · 19/06/2019 16:54

The nearest Asda to me has a Halal section, there are also quite a few Halal butchers near me , admittedly there is a large Muslim population in my town but maybe depending on where you live there's something similar near you?

SmallBee · 19/06/2019 16:55

Formerly they are Asian, I had wanted to steer clear of curries as I don't really handle spice well so I'm probably awful at cooking them! (love eating them though..)

I might try your suggestions of a lasagna and a shepherds pie, just need to check the cheeses in the lasagna!
