Could do with some positivity to stop me dwelling too much... failing that something to make me laugh...? Please don't be kind though, kind words and sympathy are making me cry 😬

Practical point you can look into

No but I know a 19 year old whose father had one at 49 and shes just been tested for something like "Familial xxx" which is a hereditary thing which, if inherited, makes her more susceptible to an early HA (like her father). She was positive so is now on medication for life. So, maybe think if there any relatives that might be able to avoid this happening to them in the future.

It’s horrible when you’re barely holding it together and someone is kind, it’s like a dam bursting. The fact you’ve put your age is interesting, people can have a heart attack at any age. You need to talk through your feelings with someone, or someone who’ll just listen.
If I say ‘get it off your chest’ would you laugh 🙂?
Hope you feel better soon. 💐

Blimey....you're my age....that seems so young to have a heart attack :( Are they fitting you with stents? My stepdad had three stents in a few months back and is doing really well.

As an aside, my paternal family have a strong history of heart attacks before the age of 60.... I was recently diagnosed with high cholesterol despite five years on a low fat diet (gallbladder trouble) - I weigh 8st 4lbs and run five miles every morning! Some times these things are genetic and not necessarily 100% due to lifestyle.

Hope you are getting good care anyway. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Oh bugger... I was kind to you wasn't I?! Sorry... ;)

My Dad had a heart attack when he was 42 and is now 81 and going strong.

His was caused by overwork and too many rich business lunches/dinners. Afterwards, he changed his way of life and was a changed man.

His cardiologist said that sometimes a heart attack when you're young (Assuming it leaves no permanent damage), can be a positive thing as long as you heed the warning.

Be kind to yourself.

@Kez200 it's Familial hypercholesterolaemia. My DH had a heart attack at 54. He has this. The whole family are being tested at the moment.

He is fine now just got to watch his diet and makes sure he exercises. He has to take various tablets for the rest of his life.

@KnifeAngel Thanks - no wonder I forgot the name! Good luck with the tests and getting any meds if required.

Kalim8 · 19/06/2019 14:59

I knew someone who had a heart attack in their early twenties - they're mid forties now and doing absolutely fine.

ducklingpie · 19/06/2019 15:01

Wow, thank you for replying I wasn't expecting that... and not too kind 👍

It's a bit random, I'm fit, correct weight, eat really good diet, low cholesterol, don't smoke, drink rarely, exercise lots (not a boast, honest).

It's called Spontaneous Carotid Artery Dissection... it seems best course of action is to leave it as it should heal itself, my arteries are too fragile for stents... oh and buckets of meds for the foreseeable. Usually affects young or mid aged people, mostly women, quite often misdiagnosed as it's quite rare. I'm trying to feel lucky that my A&E have a specialist cardiac team and they did an angiogram straight away as it's the only way to get a diagnosis.

I just don't get it and can't quite process... it doesn't seem real and I feel a bit in the wrong place. I'm surrounded by really ill people.

I do need to talk to someone you're right, not sure who at the moment, hence an anonymous forum. I hate fuss and don't want a pile of worried people turning up that I'll have to reassure that I'm going to be fine.

Trying to cancel all my plans for the next couple of weeks without telling anyone too much, I'm just not ready to explain yet.

Thanks to whoever said about a possible hereditary aspect, I hadn't thought of that but I'll make sure I do, i have three children.

Thanks again for replying, it has made a huge difference hearing about real people who recovered well.

Adding to the positive stories, my DH had a heart attack at 60 - he's 78 now - much fitter than he was then!

As others have said, DH's consultant came from the angle that having had the HA, bypass surgery, and now being on various preventative meds, he was now less likely to have a HA than many other people walking around without a care in the world, unmedicated and un-investigated.

This was a considerable reassurance to both of us and 18 years on I don't think he even gives it much thought these days.

(No kind words but I'm thinking of you. It must have been a shock.)

6timesthemess · 19/06/2019 16:25

I’m so sorry that this happened to you. It must be incredibly hard to come to terms with.

My mum had her first heart attack at 31 - although I would stress it was a totally different situation she had problems from birth.

Look after yourself and you will be fine 🙂

Toddlerteaplease · 19/06/2019 18:07

My sisters partner had a heart attack in February. He's 44. His was missed as he thought it was indigestion. He had 2 stents and blood thinners to dissolve a clot. He's fine now.

Flowers It sounds like you got quick & great medical care.
