Slow day at work

Boredandstuffy · 19/06/2019 10:05

I think I'm going to lose my mind. I have nothing to do. All work is completed for the day week but I need to look busy.

Help me. What do people do when there's nothing to do??

I am in an office, so no chance of sneaking off for a kip.

Where is the office First Aid box, what's in it? I think it might need checking.

Stationery cupboard need sorting and some more ordering?

Keyboards and screens need cleaning?

avocadochocolate · 19/06/2019 10:26

Tidy up your files. Organise some training.

Zoeputthatdown · 19/06/2019 10:34

Ooh, another one - your workplace should have an emergency plan, (exit route and assembly point), with protocols posted in common areas so that employees are familiar with them.

Wow, you are all such great employees Grin I have frequent slow days at work and I peruse Mumsnet, I do Online Typing Tests (increase your wpm etc) and I download a book and read it on Kindle Cloud. If you intersperse the reading with the typing tests, it looks like you're engrossed in something and responding appropriately every so often.

In terms of more pro-active work;
*clear out desk drawers, filing cabinets etc. Many documentation needs to be kept for only 6 years and often firms have stuff well past that which can be disposed of.
*Is the companies insurance displayed appropriately etc, check that kind of thing
Depending on your role and access rights; employee files - does everyone have a signed NDA? Al emergency contact info up-to-date?
*Start researching the Xmas party! :)

Does anyone else need any help?

It wouldn't feel right browsing the internet during work time. But i never get free time like that anyway.Envy

I love you all Grin

The trouble is, we get told off for browsing the internet. I usually sneakily listen to a podcast, or slip away to the loo for 10 minutes to go on Mumsnet - but this is usually interwoven with work that needs to be done.

I took your feedback on board and now my files are nice and neat.

19 minutes until lunch time!

Pro tip 1: Always carry some kind of folder or document when moving round the workplace.

Pro tip 2: Always leave a jacket or cardi over the back of your chair.

There used to be an extension or tool that would take a (for example) Facebook thread and turn it into lines on a boring-looking spreadsheet.

If only there was that for MN!

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 19/06/2019 12:00

I am also having a slow day.

I have a Big Important Excel file open on my screen, then MN in a teeny tiny window in the corner.

Excellent strategy haha

I was sent feedback on a document I wrote, and instead of accepting or rejecting changes, I typed the new suggestions into my original document Blush this took up 20 minutes.

Buzz I'm sure there used to be a way you could view MN so it looked like a business document back in the day, but that option is long gone now, unfortunately.
