What does your 8/9 year old son play with?

All DS wants to do is kick a ball around, he has no interest at all in Lego, he was into WWE figures but that's now passed, he loves crafting but only the really messy kind of crafts.
I'm looking for something he can play with that needs less input from me, like lego, cars, figures, trains, army men.. he's not into any of that either!

He gets plenty of time to kick a ball around but he only ever wants to do so in the house, so really need some toy ideas to get him interested in!

My nearly 9 year old spends most of his time reading, diary of a wimpy kid and history or science books. Some Lego, some banging on his keyboard. And annoying his baby brother.

sweetkitty · 18/06/2019 21:56

Lego, robots, dinosaurs
iPad and PS4
Loves football and water guns outside too

whiteroseredrose · 18/06/2019 21:59

My DS was into types of spy kit at that age. He loved adapting it so that he could spy on us!

DangerousMouse · 18/06/2019 22:00

Ooh robots and spy kits, that's an idea. Unfortunately he hasn't found pleasure in reading yet

Lego especially the new spinjitzu stuff. Watching space documentaries. Crosswords, slime and his bike

SunsetOnTheHorizon · 18/06/2019 22:01

Oh yes, spy stuff and those secret spy books with invisible pens

33goingon64 · 18/06/2019 22:11

Lego, transformers, loom bands, guitar, reading, Minecraft...

wotsittoyou · 18/06/2019 22:39

Nerf guns, laser guns, walkie talkies, elgoo, trampoline, bike, role play, magnets, magic, board games, books, minecraft.

freshasthebrightbluesky · 18/06/2019 23:08

Tried to take up knitting and sewing but doesn't have the fine motor skills required so got fed up with it. Because of those difficulties, hates any kind of drawing and writing.

Loves Lego, especially the kind with motors and gears.

Loves reading.

Occasionally still plays with trains.

Likes those micro boats that switch on as soon as they hit the water.

freshasthebrightbluesky · 18/06/2019 23:09

Oh yea and anything to do with Minecraft.

HarrassedMumof3 · 18/06/2019 23:15

Lego mainly - making mini animations. Minecraft, sketching, bike, reading, writing his own books.

RainbowOfChaos · 19/06/2019 05:54

Lego, brio, marble run, jigsaw puzzles, making a mess, whatever his little sister tells him to play (often cooking or being a vet for her ponies Grin ) Slime and painting when I can bear the mess!

I like some of these ideas, i think spy kit and walkie talkies would go down well.

CielBleuEtNuages · 19/06/2019 06:09

Dinosaurs
Building jurassic parks for dinosaurs
Knights and wild animal figurines

But hates reading and anything crafty.

Would happily spend all his time watching youtube of video games.

Other than that its all physical. Cycling, swimming, judo, football. And running about the flat

Sunnysidegold · 19/06/2019 06:14

My boy is football mad so is always out kicking a ball. Surely walkie talkies will require input from OP unless the kid has a brother or.sister to play with?
Mine likes drawing - look up "art for kids hub" on YouTube. It's a father and son drawing programme where they do step by step drawings of cool things. Easy to get a good result.

Football cards enterterain both my children but they are a pain in the arse as they always want a packet and you find them everywhere in your house.

Ivegotthree · 19/06/2019 06:18

Lego
YouTube - propel playing video games and Bear Grylls type stuff
Drawing
Reading

But mostly Lego

Ivegotthree · 19/06/2019 06:19

People not propel!

NeuropeptideS · 19/06/2019 06:27

Can't get mine off wanting to play on tech all the time. It's restricted to an hour a day but once homework is done and tea has been eaten there is not much time to get into anything else.
But he spends a lot of time reading and doing Lego when he should be asleep between 8-9pm.

Blankscreen · 19/06/2019 06:32
