Totally addicted to morning coffee, worth quitting?

Just wondering whether anyone has kicked the coffee habit?

I am properly addicted. I can't talk or look at anyone until I've had my morning coffee.

I'm otherwise healthy, don't really drink, get enough sleep, but I wake up like a zombie: 'Coffee!'

Are there any benefits to quitting? Will I be more energetic or chilled out or something? Anyone tried it?

It's one thing to say it in jest, but you sound like you really mean it. Which is weird, if you are otherwise fit and healthy and well. I don't particularly like lots of chatter and disruption to my routine first thing, but if it was as bad as this I'd certainly be a bit concerned.

I gave up caffeine for several years in an attempt to fight insomnia but honestly didn't notice any difference or health benefits. I have one good coffee in the morning, savour and enjoy it, then switch to decaf/water/peppermint tea for the rest of the day. I don't see any harm in one a day if you love it.

I used to be addicted to coffee, even though I only had one (albeit very strong one) in the morning. I quit because I hate the idea of being addicted to anything. I slowly phased it out over a month, that way I didn't get a headache or any other symptoms. I drink coffee twice a week now because I love the taste, I'm not planning to go back to daily consumption though. As for energy levels/tiredness, I feel exactly the same. No difference whatsoever.

Why don't you try it for a trial period of 2 months and see how you feel? Then you can compare accurately instead of guessing. No one will know if you'll feel tonnes better/less anxious or exactly the same. I'd find something to replace it with - e.g. mint leaves in boiling water and go from there.
