A quick question about chicken!!

I bought some chicken from shopping on Saturday that has been in the fridge until today, realised we won’t use it until Sunday so am I ok to put in the freezer now even though it has been in the fridge for four days?

Does it say in the label? Usually it's 'freeze on day of purchase'?

CatstorTroy · 18/06/2019 17:07

I would and I've never been I'll. But I've also left chicken in the fridge for a week then cooked it I probably can't be trusted.

LuLuLuLuLooooo · 18/06/2019 17:11

Totally fine as long as it's within date!

They say 'freeze on day of purchase' to cover their ass in case you've done something silly with it.

But sitting in your fridge is no different to it sitting in the fridge in the shop.

I often do this tbh. No ill effects yet!

DeathyMcDeathStarFace · 18/06/2019 18:09

Yeah, I do that if I haven't used some chicken when expected. As LuLu said the freeze on day of purchase advice is to cover their backs. As long as it has been kept at the correct temperature it is just like buying the exact same chicken today instead of last Saturday.

The shops don't know if your fridge is at the required safe temperature so won't take responsibility for meat storage in your house so they recommend freezing asap if that is what you want to do with it.

Is it's still before the use by date then it's fine to freeze now

gingajewel · 18/06/2019 18:37

That’s great thanks, noticed the use by date was Thursday, your right it’s no different to it sitting in the shop is it! Thanks all
