Really need some hand holding, absolutely terrified

Hi there, I've been a member for a little and haven't posted before but I'm reaching out today for abit of support/ hand holding.

My DD is nearly 3 and myself and DP have noticed recently that she has a lazy eye, we booked her an appointment and she was referred to the optometrist after seeing a normal opticians. Went to appointment today and they were able to determine she has limited to nearly no vision in her left eye, it's extremely poor. Because of me saying we had only noticed the squint 6-8 weeks ago she was very concerned, we are going away at the end of the week and when she suggested an appointment and I mentioned us going away she said no this needs to be done urgently. We were able to get an appointment for Thursday morning, where they will do a health test on the eye, she also asked if I had noticed any glares on photos or anything which I haven't. Anyway I'm not a mess thinking she must have some sort of tumour impacting her vision. I've looked back at pictures and I'm able to see her eyes squinted slightly over a year ago so it isn't as sudden as it seems, she is also developing at a very good rate, hitting milestones, has no issues with drawing or catching a ball etc. She has been clumsy but that's not sudden that's how she's been since she can walk. I just I'm not even sure what I'm posting for I guess some reassurance and hand holding. I feel awful that she could have had really bad vision for as long as she's been born and I've only just picked it up. I just need some support and positivity !!

@itsalwaysunny good to hear there was nothing sinister causing your daughters eye issues, it must have been a very frightening experience, but thanks for updating... I had been hoping for the best. If it comes to surgery try not to fear it, as in the future she will more than likely thank you for it. Good luck with everything

That's really good news. A schoolfriend had similar many years ago and had to have an operation to correct things for her. She was really active, a beautiful dancer and her eye problems as a young child haven't held her back.

So glad it was nothing sinister. Sounds a hellish experience for you, the wait must have a killer.

Enjoy your holiday!

Gosh my stomach dropped on reading the first few lines of your update but I’m glad it’s all turned out ok. She sounds amazing and my niece had a squint diagnosed at two and now at seven it’s hardly noticeable and her eyesight is much improved (I can’t remember exactly what treatment she had but she did wear a patch for a while.

Deep breaths

I had a lazy eye as a child and had surgery and exercises plus patches and glasses

They rarely do surgery these days as practice is to patch the GOOD eye to make the poor (or lazy eye) work - (the reason its not working is cos it can't see so the brain thins its a waste of time)

DD had a lazy eye - I knew they could be hereditary and looked for it and spotted it when she was 3 - optician but tricky as not a reader, they missed it, it was picked up in reception at school when she was 4 we had about a year of patching (with very cool patches, DDs favourite was the pirate one) with glasses to correct the sight in the poor eye. Now 14 and with glasses has a slight turn in her eye still but it is minimal and eyesight is fine with the glasses.

Mine is also fine and only noticeable when really tired same as DD

Hope this helps reassure you a little
