Has anyone ever had a colonoscopy?

I have IBS and my gastroenterologist wants to check for IBD etc, my appointment has come through for next month and no joking, I am crapping myself!
I’ve got to take a prep called Klean prep which is vanilla flavoured and I hate vanilla flavoured stuff, makes me nauseous. I also have terrible anxiety and hate the thought of massive explosive diarrhoea!
I know I need to put on my big girls pants (for crying out loud, I’m 46 and have had two children without pain relief ffs) but I am honestly close to cancelling as I feel so panicked (and so, so stupidly went on YouTube and found horrible colonoscopy horror stories, agghh, will I EVER learn??!!)
Any stories, good or bad appreciated and any tips for getting through it without going completely crazy with fear!

Glug

@Dowser does that really work?

As everyone else has said, the prep is worse than the procedure. I had picolax which is not quite as vile as moviprep. I had gas & air during the procedure and watched on screen, fascinating.

I’ve had two, with “blackcurrant” moviprep. It’s a curious thing, feeling like you are weeing out of your bum! The drink is disgusting, I just had to hold my nose and down it like I was on the losing end of a really shit fresher’s week drinking game.

I was sedated for the actual procedure, so don’t remember anything too traumatic- it is weird seeing your insides on a camera! The only bit I found uncomfortable was when they did a biopsy using something that looked like one of those retractable rubbish picker-uppers. And yes you will fart like crazy afterwards as they inflate you like a puffer fish.

Weirdly though afterwards I felt the healthiest I’d been for a while- think it must have had some sort of cleansing effect!

I had one on saturday. I had moviprep which was fine actually, i didn't bother with a straw just took 4 big gulps followed by gulps of orange cordial. I had an afternoon appointment so had to take one at 6pm friday and one at 6am saturday. was on the loo for about 2 hours both times. slept through.

I had sedation and did use gas and air at one point when he was right up in the left hand side (but because of being uncomfortable with the air being pumped in to me!) all in all it was no where near as bad as i thought it would be.

good luck.

I've had it done before. As most others have said, the prep is indeed the worst part. I had picolax and they decided I wasn't quite cleaned out enough because instead of clear, it was still coming out brown. Sorry for the TMI that nobody needed there.
Anyway they flushed something else up there to finish cleaning me out. The nurses were lovely and the surgeon (who has since sadly passed away) was to this day, the nicest medical professional I have ever met.

I didnt have hardly any gas afterwards tbh
