It looks like a rosemary beetle. They are an invasive pest so you probably want to get rid of them before they destroy your lavender. Just don't use any pesticide on the plant while it is flowering as it is harmful to bees. Either shake them off onto a sheet or cut the flowers off before you spray the plant.

Oh what a shame as it is so beautiful!

The RHS are doing a survey on sightings of the rosemary beetle here www.rhs.org.uk/science/help-our-research/rosemary-beetle

I had some on my lavender last year too

BringOnTheScience · 17/06/2019 14:35

runout is correct Sad v pretty, but invasive. Squish 'em!

SouthWestmom · 17/06/2019 14:42

Shocksquish them! I'm not a very good gardener, forever rescuing worms, snails, spiders and random bugs rather than just digging.

Yup, get rid... or bid farewell to lavendar, rosemary, sage & thyme.

SouthWestmom · 17/06/2019 15:02

I'm so disappointed. I've done the survey but I thought I'd discovered some gorgeous new ladybird.

I knew it would be one of these as soon as I saw the thread. I had the same excitement/disappointment ride about 3 years ago.

I think they are awesome enough to keep even if they eat some of my plants....

SouthWestmom · 17/06/2019 16:16

Maybe I will relocate them to a little bug house in the garden and feed them bits of plant. I can't squish them.

They'll potentially destroy every rosemary, thyme and lavender plant in the area as they spread - I don't suppose you'd keep a couple of rats in the kitchen cupboard on the grounds that they're cute. Or a zombie in the front garden.

Yes, they are attractive. But so are bastard Lily Beetles.

BringOnTheScience · 17/06/2019 18:10

Neouf - seriously, get rid!!! They look pretty but they will do untold damage. They are an invasive species Sad

SouthWestmom · 17/06/2019 18:46

Ok, ok I hear you. They're just so pretty.

Off to shake them onto paper and then admire their beauty destroy them

Good! They are pretty but apart from destroying your plants, invasive species can cause havoc in the ecosystem. Assuage your guilt by thinking that you are helping all the other bugs and critters by getting rid of them Grin

LakeFlyPie · 17/06/2019 20:37

They are beautifullittle fuckers
