Where do you store your ground coffee?

I buy ready ground coffee and store it in a screw top jar in the fridge .
Each packet lasts a 2 to three weeks .
I noticed today that the back of the packet says "store in freezer" but Google has also told me that you shouldn't store it in freezer but in ambient temp.

Does it matter? (Cos actually in the same cupboard as coffee machine and filter papers would be the handiest place)

Mine is in a sealed top jar on the counter. I’ve never had any taste different from when bought to when used (usually a couple of weeks). But I may just not be sensitive to the finer tastes?!

maxelly · 17/06/2019 13:08

Like Delurking I'm not sure my palate is refined enough to notice subtle changes but I recently (on google advice) switched to storing mine in a sealed container on the countertop from the freezer and haven't noticed a difference either way. So would probably go with what's convenient for you!

I keep mine in a air tight pot ( rubber seal) on the work top.
I have never kept it in the fridge or freezer as I would be concerned about it getting damp .

I do the same as you op

Used to store refrigerated but we go through so much that I don't notice any detrimental effects in storing it airtight in cupboard instead as more practical. We do however notice difference between buying it pre ground and as beans. We buy beans and grind them ourselves.

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 17/06/2019 13:45

Thanks, we too don't have the palate to notice the difference, so i'll start just keeping it in the cupboard instead as it's more convenient.
I knew someone would say grinding your own beans is better but that's not going to happen!

I always stored mine in the fridge but a colleague worked in the coffee industry for years and she told me not to. I can't remember why though!

bigbluebus · 17/06/2019 15:18

Always kept ours in a storage tin in the cupboard. DS (who considers himsef to be a bit of a coffee expert) has never told me off and he stores his coffee in the same way.

AntiHop · 17/06/2019 15:24

I keep mine in the freezer at home and at the fridge at work.

SkintAsASkintThing · 17/06/2019 15:35

DS is the weirdy coffee drinker of the house.

He buys beans which he grinds each morning. Beans are stored in a sealed jar next to his coffee paraphernalia. Apparently ready.ground stuff leaches a lot of flavour.........so if you're worried about taste id try swapping to beans and a cheap, burr grinder.

What containers are you using. I bought OXO Good Grips POP Container - Airtight Food Storage - 0.5L but it isn't really geat as you can smell coffee eve if it's closed.
I now bought JL own screw top glass one. I think this is better than that OXO.

Synecdoche · 17/06/2019 15:52

In a tupperware in the fridge.

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 17/06/2019 15:53

I actually use an old glass instant (sue me!) coffee jar.
It's got a good seal cos I know when DH hasn't put the lid on properly because the fridge smells of coffee!

We keep ours on the counter in a sealed tub. It lasts about 5-6 days, so it's not going to go off. We've used beans before, but they're a faff at bastard o'clock, as well as noisy.

NannyR · 17/06/2019 17:01

I keep mine in an airtight glass jar in the cupboard. I've read that keeping it dry and dark is more important than keeping it cold, if you keep it in a fridge or freezer there is more moisture around.

stucknoue · 17/06/2019 17:09

I buy beans and grind each time because you can't keep it fresh ready ground
