Weekly food shop is £100 per week. Can I get this down?

We have me, DH, DD and DSD.

DD is 1 and needs breakfast and dinner during the week and all meals at the weekend.
Depending on the week, DSDs needs are different but the maximum is 3 breakfasts, 2 packed lunches and 2 dinners during the week and all weekend meals.
DH and I need all meals (packed lunches for work)

A typical breakfast for any of us would be toast, cereal, or beans on toast. Typical lunch would be a chicken wrap, yoghurt, fruit and crisps. Typically dinner would be cottage pie, curry, spag bol, jacket potatoes.

Does £100 per week sound ok if it includes washing powder, dishwasher tablets, toilet roll etc when needed? Is it worth trying to get this down? We live near a massive Tesco and anywhere else would really not be worth the extra petrol and time.

Sounds okay to me. DH, DS and I spend between £70 and £100 per week on food, cleaning products, toiletries etc. We also have packed lunches so that includes all food for me and DH and breakfast and dinner for DS (other meals are at nursery). I do meal plan and have very little wastage - but food is also one of our biggest pleasures in life, so we definitely don't try to economise - we buy plenty of fresh herbs and fresh fruit, and though we eat mostly chicken we wouldn't bother trying to bulk meals out t make it go further. I spend virtually nothing else on myself (aside from bills). I think it all depends on whether you feel it is too much (and whether it is a strain on your budget).

If your happy to make a little effort so wilkos home bargains etc even once a month to do a monthly cleaning product toiletry shop you'll save some money quite easily.
I always buy several tubes of toothpaste for example when its a £1 for the brand i want so im never left with having to pay full wack.
Likewise if your open to other brands and meals are whatever is on offer i think you'll save money.
Even a fiver a week will pretty much pay for a cheap Christmas!

That sounds fine, I spend the same. It could be cheaper, but if you don't want to spend time going to different shops then it's probably not going to be cheaper.
I'm self employed, so it's not worth my time shopping around so I meal plan and order online. I could save by buying more in bulk, but we are a family of 4 in a 2 bed terrace and don't have room to store the excess.

I think this sounds about right TBH.We spend about the same really (even more on some weeks).People will often tell you what they spend and how to reduce it .But good food is expensive and necessary for health and nutrition .Adding on washing powder, loo roll and so on and its easy to see where the money goes!

Thanks for the tips! We are not desperate but could do with building up savings and most of our money disappears easily month so I wondered if we were being extravagant compared to others. Glad we are quite normal.

Some great tips here, thank you! I guess we will be able to shave off a little if I follow them. I like the idea of stocking up on cleaning products in poundland. Already bulk up spag bol etc with grated veg as it is the only way of getting it into the kids!! DD absolutely loves berries and wont touch cheaper fruit Hmm.
