Army cadets and asthma

Can you join if you have asthma?

I have a DS13 who's best pal's dad is ex military. Both boys are at the droopy stage of teenage boy-dom - x box and slumping are what they do, so, when they expressed an interest in the cadets I was delighted! Marching would be ideal for the slumping!

My DS has had pretty bad asthma, it's well controlled now but he's still under consultant review. Not had an admission for a few years.

I can't see on the site that he can't go - anyone volunteer with the cadets who can tele so I can manage his expectations?

I don’t think it would prohibit him from joining I have a son in raf cadets and they welcome everyone. I’d get in touch with the local regiment and see what they say.

Cadets is fine but it’s an absolute no no for full time military as you can’t be having an asthma attack in the middle of a war zone

Yes, they can join Cadets and they'll deal with it the same way they do in school.

However we've had some heartbroken Cadets who thought they wanted to go onto the Army and couldn't because of their conditions so expectations need to be set.

I can't tell you how good Cadets had been for my non-sporty not particularly interested in anything DS1.
