It's a pain not having fingerprints

I haven't quite moved on to facial recognition technology, all my "devices" use a fingerprint. I couldn't sign into my internet banking the other week then I found out that one of the side effects of the Chemo I am currently on for BC is loss of fingerprints! Everything now has a sodding six digit code too which is a pain. I didn't think it was ever possible to lose your fingerprints, would it have surprised you too? Maybe I could go on a major crime spree Grin

I hadn't heard of that! Thanks I like learning new things. Sorry your not well though snow.

My fingerprints are always dodgy in different ways because my medical condition causes the skin to peel off (sorry disgusting I know!) so they are different depending on the particular damage at the time.

One of my DC has never had usable fingerprints. In the secondary school, they used fingerprint system to pay for lunches, but my middle child was one of three in the school who had to have access cards instead.

Will you get yours back after treatment?

I burned the pads of my fingers as a child , and have only scar tissue where my fingerprints should be. Perhaps I could join you on your crime spree !

So sorry to hear about your chemo. I've never had chemo, but for some reason my fingerprints don't seem to work with a lot of electronic devices - and, what's more, sometimes I put my finger on the sensor to unlock my laptop, and it thinks I'm DH and unlocks his account instead 🤔 My son is about to start at a nursery which allows parents to access the building via their fingerprints and I'm dreading it!

Interesting that others have issues for different reasons, the assumption is that everyone can use them for ID. I am glad I don't have to face US immigration, they made a big song and dance about my fingerprints last year so maybe I'm someone with dodgy prints anyway! I think I will get them back in time but tbh I'm more worried about my head hair and eyebrows growing back. I have half a right eyebrow, I look very dodgy 😂

A good friend of ours sent JFK immigration into a tizz. They needed the forefinger of both hands. He blended the left one off (with a hand blender ...) and had no fingerprint to speak of. He was amazed that there was no protocol for a substitute finger to be used in such circumstances; he can't have been the first.

One of my hobbies involves handling glass with sharp edges. I'm forever with small cuts and scars on my fingers which renders my print temporarily unusable so have had to store all my fingerprints on my phone so there'll be at least one I can log in with! Grin

I am ok with finger print things but none of my devices ever recognise my face.

We did one that said it could t detect a face when it was literally looking right at me - I mean what’s wrong with my face Confused

bigbluebus · 17/06/2019 14:36

@6timesthemess Do you by any chance have blonde hair? I only ask because when I last renewed my passport I did it on line - including the photo. It kept being rejected as they couldn't detect my pale face - even though it was right there in the photo. I was able to override their rejection fortunately and in the comment box for the reason I was requesting an override I just put "my face is there and visible" !
