If you didn't name your baby for a few days...

...did you eventually choose a name that you had already thought of, or did you choose something completely different?

My baby is a week old in a few hours and still has no name. I have a couple of threads in baby names but wondered what other peoples experiences were.

We had a shortish list but now he's here, none of them are right. I keep coming up with new names and DH is getting annoyed. He likes 3 of our original list but none are right.

Our DD we had named from before I was even pregnant however with DS we just couldn't agree on a name at all. (Or rather, I had a shortlist and would have been happy with one or two but DH didn't really like any of them but couldn't come up with any!).

In the end, I think it was on day 2 or 3 and I suddenly said: "What about X?" - it was a name that bizarrely rhymed with one on my shortlist but which had never even crossed either of our minds before. This name seemed to fit DS more as in my mind it was a 'dark-haired name' whereas the original one it rhymed with was a 'fair-haired name' Confused DS lost all of his dark hair and is now very much a strawberry blonde but hey ho, he seems to have settled into the name regardless Grin

DH seemed to like it as much as me so it was settled!

I found boys' names sooo much harder by the way - I think it's because apparently there are double the number of girls' names out there.

Have you looked on the ONS baby names lists?

My first didn’t have a name for a week and ended up with a name that wasn’t on our shortlist (which was very short because choosing a boy’s name is hard). My second didn’t have a name for a few days as we just wanted to make sure we’d picked the right name from the shortlist (girls names are easier). If we have another child and it is a boy, I expect he’ll be nameless forever!

Totally different.

She just wasn't a Charlotte.

We named ds1 on day 11 and ds2 after 3 weeks (because one of our friends started calling him Lenny- we'd called him lentil since I found out I was pregnant as that was his size at the time).

There's no rush, wait till you are both happy with a name
