I know I sound ridiculous, but does this train ticket (from Rugby to St Pancras) mean I can travel on the day carte blanche in zones 1/2 or do I need an Oyster?
Ticket is from Rugby to Euston then Underground to St Pancras.
I may have answered my own question...

Can anyone explain these London train tickets please?

Train tickets always confuse me slightly, but I think as it’s an advanced single it will only be valid for that one journey.

Work gives me these sort of tickets when we have quarterlies.
Sometimes they work, sometimes they don’t. But yes, they are supposed to get you through the ticket machines at tube stations. If not then a contactless bank card will work.

Howzaboutye · 16/06/2019 22:18

Welllll, it really depends how well you can talk yourself through the barriers.
Strictly speaking it's just to let you get to Euston. However I used to go into London and always hopped around on the tube using that type of ticket. Feinging ignorance at each ticket barrier chap

AmazingBouncingFerret · 16/06/2019 22:18

Oh wait I misunderstood! Yes if it works it should only take you from Euston to St Pancras

Optimist1 · 16/06/2019 22:20

Can I point out that you could walk from Euston to St Pancras in less time than taking the tube?

justbeniceplease · 16/06/2019 22:21

No you will need an oyster or use contactless.

justbeniceplease · 16/06/2019 22:22

Also, you are faster walking.

justbeniceplease · 16/06/2019 22:22

Travel for the rest of day in 1/2 is not included though.

I can help here. It means you can go from rugby to your London network rail station (kings cross, eustone, Waterloo etc) and then use them for one trip on the underground anywhere in zones 1 or two.

So they'll work on network rail train both ends. Then work on one trip on the underground.

If you're going multiple places in London (leaving the stations) then you'll need an oyster/contactless after you leave the first underground station.

Hope that helps

Lima45 · 16/06/2019 22:24

Damn autocorrect. Meant Euston. And as yours specifies yes it'll get you from rugby station to Euston station and then one trip on the underground and stop working when you go out of the underground barriers at destination

Snooks1971 · 17/06/2019 07:21

Ah thanks all! I thought as much but needed some voices of experience. A colleague also mentioned it’s quicker to walk from Euston to St P; ultimate destination is Piccadilly Circus (Body Worlds exhibition for me and DS) and I wanted to be prepared for hopping on n off tubes if we need to.
Big thanks everyone Smile much appreciated.

If you just make sure you have a couple of contactless cards then you are all set for any extra underground trips you want to make.
