Is Killing Eve suitable for a 14 year old?

I want to watch the first series and I think DD would love it but I just wanted to check there is nothing too traumatic in it first - don’t mind a bit of blood and gore but just nothing too psychologically disturbing iyswim... what do you think?

I found it disturbing and stopped watching it.

DramaRamaLlama · 15/06/2019 15:59

Not particularly disturbing given it's a story about a psychopathic contract killer.

I watched it with my 14 year old - she enjoyed it.

Hollowvictory · 15/06/2019 16:02

No.
But I'm quite strict. Does a 14 year old need to see people stabbed to death, I would not think so.

ooooohbetty · 15/06/2019 16:03

No it's really violent. I couldn't watch it for that reason.

stucknoue · 15/06/2019 16:07

It's about an assassin and there's cold blooded killing in it. It's kind of borderline though, I suspect it would get a 15 certificate but suitability depends somewhat on the teenager. Mine love it but youngest was 17 when it was first on and watched in her boarding house so I didn't get to choose. It's kind of hard as a parent to start letting go on the restrictions, but by mid teens there's not really anything in broadcast tv that's inappropriate (Sky movies and Netflix perhaps)

Hollowvictory · 15/06/2019 16:10

I think it would be 18 certification

RoomR0613 · 15/06/2019 16:21

Apparently it's rated as a 15 in the UK

I'm surprised people above have found it that horrifying to be honest.

JasperTheFriendlyGhost · 15/06/2019 16:29

DD14 watched it last year and enjoyed. She recommend it to DS13 who watched it a few months ago. They’ve both finished season 2 now and DD is 15 and DS is 14 now.

LeekMunchingSheepShagger · 15/06/2019 16:30

I wouldn't. Isn't there a pretty graphic sex scene at some point? Plus it's really violent.

FauxFox · 15/06/2019 16:38

Thanks for that link RoomR0613 - I think we will try is out and see Smile

I'd say not. I absolutely love it but it is disturbing. I'd feel differently about a teenager who was 16, or nearly. It depends on how sensitive your child is, of course.

For comparison, I'd probably let a 14 year old watch Line of Duty which also has some graphic violent scenes, but I think fewer and with far more obvious consequences for the wrongdoers. I wouldn't let them watch Game of Thrones, which has a lot of graphic violence (but also of course a lot of explicit sex scenes, and I suppose that might be more of a concern).

Fairylea · 15/06/2019 16:45

I think for a sensible 14 year old it’s okay. It’s actually quite funny in places, it’s got a lot of dark humour in it which makes the violence less intense. I have a 15 year old daughter and I keep telling her to give it a go as dh and I loved it so much!

DramaRamaLlama · 15/06/2019 16:45

room I'd never seen that parents bit on IMDb before it's helpful.

Interesting to see differences between country ratings.

Pretty sure Netflix also describe it as a black comedy.

lolaflores · 15/06/2019 16:49

I was a bit shocked at the scene in season 1 when she stabs the guy at the club. That ferocious stabbing in his chest...I watch a lot of stuff but it was very violent

FogCutter · 15/06/2019 16:57

I'd say not, because of some of the violence and psychopath type behaviour! Also the relationships stuff is quite adult I think?
