Hello. I have finally managed to save up for tickets to see Matilda in the West End. This is my daughters dream come true, she listens to the music all day, read the book twice and seen the film too.

I want to tell her in an exciting way! Any ideas?

Wrap the tickets inside several boxes, like pass-the-parcel.

Bake a cake, from the base cut out a central core, wrap the tickets in polythene bag, put inside the cake. decorate the cake as normal. Cut the cake to reveal the tickets. (Will only work if the ticket is small)

Do a treasure hunt with the tickets as the treasure, maybe in a gold envelope?

Hide the tickets in a copy of Moby Dick, wrapped up with red ribbon. Hope your DD enjoys ‘em.

Cake thing must obviously be an enormous chocolate cake. We saw Matilda in Bradford earlier thus year. It’s fantastic!

Buy her a copy of The Red Pony and have the tickets in there?

(That’s the only book I remember Matilda reading from the book, there is probably something else that’s more suitable!)

"Glue" photocopies of tickets into a hat
Do a Matilda themed treasure hunt around the house (bingo pen, TV dinner, honey, library card, that kind of thing)

Ease tickets and confetti into a balloon, blow it up and get her to pop it.

Not sure how old she is but take each letter of MATILDA, use a clue to find each letter (out of order, so T first, then L, then M, for example):

I'm going to use M and A as my examples, though, just cos I've thought of a couple of little clues for those:
'My first is in metal but not in petal, you'll find me just beside the....' Obviously, answer is kettle (she has found M).
'There are three of me in marmalade but only one of me in jam, do you think that you can find me? I'm in the fridge behind the ...' Answer is ham (she has found an A).
Your little girl can gather up all the letters via various clues - and she hands each to you in turn, ensuring she keeps the letters upright all the time). When they are all gathered, out of order and facing up on a table, ask her if she can arrange them into a word. (MATILDA).
