So looking to buy a used car at a main dealer from experience they dont like to drop any money off the car or givd you anymore for yours! Car Im looking at is £14,000...mine was bought from there 18months ago for £12,000 they are saying worth between £6,500-7,500.

What you paid for your car has absolutely nothing to do with how much you can part ex it for unfortunately.

The car will have depreciated both on account of increased mileage and number of owners for starters.

Then they'll have costs factored in such as MOT, valet, admin etc.

And finally, they want a profit.

What you need to do is say you want w-figure for yours, and you want to pay x-figure for theirs. Make the numbers something you can haggle, so if you want 7.5k ask for 8k. Then see if they'll settle on part exing for y-figure and selling for x-figure.

You may not get too far with used main dealer though. Used cars are just pocket money on the side.

They are offering 0% finance so I really need to purchase through them. Might see if I can get more pricate for mine

Try running yours through webuyanycar.com and see what it comes up with. Seems a lot of dealers will base their PX figures around that. No doubt could get more for a private sale, but obviously a trade-off or effort/hassle factor in that.

The best thing to do is have a look on private car selling sites and look for cars similar in spec to the one you want to trade in -

Make, model, reg plate
Mileage
MOT/ service history
Condition
Number of owners

This way you'll get an idea of what your resale value is.

It's important to remember though that you must advertise as must be seen and sold as seen, otherwise should your buyer have cause for complaint you may find yourself having to refund the buyer with cash you no longer have.

Cross post with PP, who has it exactly. You pay a premium for no hassle with part ex. The risks with a private sale include time wasting, or not finding a buyer for a while, etc.
