I’m 20 weeks with my 2nd successful pregnancy. I’ve had severe spd with all my pregnancies (3) it was my first symptom with each pregnancy and with my first I was on crutches by about 26 weeks. This time the pain is also around my tummy as well as my back, bum and groin I’m in absolute agony and feel like I’m already reaching my limit of coping 😔 does anyone have any advice/tips which have helped them? Also what belts has anybody found work best?
(I’m seeing an osteopath and a physio and following all the rules, keep legs together, pillow between legs etc.)
I’m not getting any sleep and I feel like I’m limiting my poor 2yo who is very active and outdoorsy 😔
Any advice is appreciated

I got more relief from the big tubi-grip than the belt personally.

I also found acupuncture helped, although I don't know why!

Get yourself some decent painkillers, you may need to push the doctor to be given anything other than paracetamol. Tens machine can help as can swimming.

Take the 2 yr old to parks with a fence and let them run, can your DH help with keeping your 2yo active? Could you afford to put them in nursery at all?

I also found heat pads helped a bit.

Good luck

I used this www.maternity-belt.co.uk/how-harness-gravidarum-can-help-you/

Not cheap but worth every penny. Also look at the Pelvic Partnership website for local physios who really understand the problem. Between my amazing physio and the harness I was able to continue to work and not use my crutches.

www.appliedbiomechanics.co.uk/ the best on the market.

Thank you all ☺️ my partner is brilliant but he's self employed so can be super busy. He comes home and takes over all house duties so can't ask much more of him really!

Will chase the doctors to get something more effective (so difficult to be taken seriously, especially when they start talking about how normal it is to get pain during pregnancy, I think unless you've experienced it people don't know how hard it can be)
Also I will def look into hiring a tens machine!

We have a small park a 5 min walk away so I do try to get down there as often as poss. I just need to be more determined and start setting myself up carefully to be able to do it ☺️

I saw an amazing chiropractor- it took quite a few appointments but I was back to normal within a reasonable time.

Have you tried the HG maternity belt? It's really comfortable and way more supportive than a regular belt - www.maternity-belt.co.uk/product/hg-maternity-support-belt/

Has your physio not given you one?
I had the tubigrip bandage, then a support belt, and then ended up on crutches for the last month.
Definitely ask your physio. If they can't give you one, they may be able to advise on which to buy.

And do be aware, if you breastfeed, you will continue to produce relaxin, so the pain may linger for a while.
Everyone told me, "Oh, it goes once you give birth."
Not always!! It did with my first pregnancy, but not this second time.

Good luck with the rest of the pregnancy!

I used tubigrip from under my bra strap to just above my knees, and hired crutches and a wheelchair from the Red cross.
