Acrylic nails advice

I have a terrible habit linked to anxiety of picking the skin at the side of my thumbs. They are so sore and unsightly at the moment. In the past, on the odd occasion for a wedding or Christmas, I have had acrylic nails put on and I know I can't pick my skin with them so I was thinking of having some done over the summer holidays (I work in early years, not very practical having them on most of the time) in the hope that it would break the habit. However, I have no idea what I need to do in terms of maintenance e.g. How often do I have to get them redone? Or do I go back for infills? (I've heard of that but not sure what it involves!) And how often? I don't want to make a fool of myself in the salon. Please tell me what I do and what I ask for! Thanks

Hello,
If you want them to look like a french manicure then ask for 'gel nails with white tips'.

I ask them to cut them quite short and I like a round end.

I get infils about every three weeks although I eek it out as long as possible between sessions.

When I get infils then I have a shellac colour put on because its instantly dry and last longer than normal nail polish.

After a few sets of infils I get them to take them off and do them completely again and I tend to go for white tips and start the process all again.

Gel nails are usually a few pounds more than acryilic but I have found that when I take them off completely (to give my nails a rest) and get a shellac colour on top then they are not too badly damaged.
