Croatia - anyone lived there or spent longer periods there?

For various reasons this could be an option for us - Brexit irrelevant as we have dual nationality with an EU country.

Has anyone lived or spent periods longer than a holiday in Croatia? Anyone own a holiday home or other property there or live there permanently, either as a national or an immigrant/ expat/ temporary resident?

What do we need to know? I think we need Croatian health insurance if we stay more than a 90 day stretch, but we won't be doing that for a few years. Otherwise we just register as tourists and that's that, I believe?

Do you drink the water if staying longer? Buying water permanently seems crazy... Is there a genuine reason not to drink the water?

OP not lived in Croatia but I dont get the water thing? We went there recently on holiday in a villa and drank tap water - we are still around. A quick Google suggests the tap water is well tap water.

RicStar DH has relatives there who buy water and don't drink to water (don't drink it as water, do cook with it). Distantish elderly relatives + language limitations mean asking why exactly is tricky). Maybe pipes, maybe habit, maybe cultural norms...

Good to hear you drank the water, thanks.

Water is generally fine but I think a lot of them are just paranoid due to past events. Graduallly wean yourself ont it if you're worried or filter. I've spent a while there, I love it but dont rely on authorities for anything.
