Possible job move- would you stop TTC?

Just wondering what others would do...

I have applied for a job at my company but in a different department. They asked me to apply and I am hopeful I will get the job if I do well at interview. Nothing is promised though.

Been TTC for just short of a year. Not sure what I should do about TTC if I get the job. I have a 3 month notice period so would be fairly far along by the time I start if I got pregnant soon. Interviews are not until a few weeks from now. I could already be pregnant now I suppose, since I think I ovulated a few days ago.

I have wanted to work in this department for years and they have wanted me to work there too.

What would you do?

Anyone out there willing to share what you would do? :)

Hmmm maybe I am not best placed to ask exactly, but as someone whonhad unexpected trouble conceiving and put everything on hold for a couple of years because a bfp was sure to be "just around the corner", I would say go for it. Even if you get pregnant RIGHT NOW you will still be there for 5ish months before you leave. You could always put ttc on hold for 6 or so months from this cycle (asuming you don't fall) so you have a year there before you go on maternity leave

AnotherEmma · 18/06/2019 19:23

I would go for both! Apply for the job and keep TTC. As it's a role change within the company you should still be entitled to the same maternity benefits if you get pregnant (SMP as a minimum if they don't have an enhanced package). If the potential new job was at a different organisation the answer might be different.

Keep TTC! Your length of service shouldn't be affected as it's the same company, so shouldn't impact on maternity pay. And after trying for so long, you'd always wonder "what if" for the months you hold off.

ChikiTIKI · 22/06/2019 19:58

Hmm yeah, I am inclined to agree with you all. I just worry it would annoy people! I got pregnant immediately after getting married and have a child but trying for another hasn't gone the same way. I worry people would assume that I am super fertile and got pregnant again just as easily and therefore chose to do it at what would probably be considered an inconvenient time.

I would still get maternity pay etc, so wouldn't be any risk financially.

I have been having load of very vivid and kind of odd dreams for a week now. This seems to happen to me only when pregnant so I am getting suspicious now... Although my husband claims to be having weird dreams too!! So who knows! :)

AF showed up so I am not pregnant this time :(

Will probably carry on ttc regardless of if I get the job or not.

Congratulations on both counts!

Boyceey · 28/07/2019 15:41

Congratulations Chiki! Try to remember that it really doesn't matter what other people think, especially if it's something as petty as being annoyed with you for being pregnant. Its wonderful news and anyone who isn't happy for you (or at least naturally accepting of it!) are just knobs and don't deserve your worry or time.

Have an amazing time in your new role and your pregnancy

ChikiTIKI · 28/07/2019 15:53

thank you @AnotherEmma and @Boyceey

you're right- after having a MC in December i need to focus on the baby and work worries should come far below that. hoping it all works out... :)

Omg @ChikiTIKI I remember you from old TTC threads!! Congrats 🎉

Congratulations! Flowers I work with a woman in quite a senior position who actually interviewed for her current role at 10 weeks pregnant. She got the job and has now been off on mat leave and come back and it's all been fine. She's actually one of the most well-respected managers in the department. Hopefully it will all be fine at work OP, I think you did 100% the right thing!

WantLifeToBeBetter · 28/07/2019 16:05

Congratulations!

ChikiTIKI · 28/07/2019 16:53

thanks guys :) you're all so kind. feeling nervous about work still but i suppose i will see how everything goes for the next couple of months before telling them anyway. i really think i will enjoy doing this job and hope to be in the role for a long time if it all works out, so hopefully they will understand that and be ok with having to find cover for my mat leave.

i suppose since they recently did interviews for the role, they have a shortlist of people to ask to do a maternity cover already.
