Does this yogurt contain added sugar?

probably a stupid question but it’s quite high sugar and I’m trying to work out if it’s from added sugar or naturally occurring sugars from the fruit compote.
I love this yogurt but am wondering how healthy it actually is! I’ve been craving it with blueberries and strawberries in the morning - am pregnant - but now I’m wondering if I’m putting myself at risk from GD because it’s quite a high sugar snack.

Does this yogurt contain added sugar?

It’s got sugar in the ingredients, so yes it has sugar added.

QOFE · 13/06/2019 16:30

It says sugar on the ingredients list!

INeedNewShoes · 13/06/2019 16:31

The 3rd ingredient is sugar.

It wouldn't be listed if it wasn't added.

Well it lists sugar and honey in the ingredients... Hmm

Mustbetimeforachange · 13/06/2019 16:31

It says it has added sugar & honey in the ingredients.

BiscuitDrama · 13/06/2019 16:31

But are you at risk from GD? If not you’re ok to eat some sugary crap.

Orangedaisy · 13/06/2019 16:31

Yes it has sugar added. But unless you’re really really susceptible to gd or are also eating sugar by the bag I think you’re being a bit paranoid worrying about the sugar in a yoghurt.

sqirrelfriends · 13/06/2019 16:32

This is me recently, epic mummy brain.

Aberforthsgoat · 13/06/2019 16:34

Grin I am being a total idiot today. I left my handbag at the supermarket checkout, nearly locked myself out of the house and jauntily walked down the road carrying a black sack I was supposed to put out in the rubbish on the way!

But this one has to be my best one yet.
takes bow

Genuinely did not spot that ShockConfused

I'm pretty sure you don't give yourself GD by eating sugar. It's hormonal.

Sandybval · 13/06/2019 16:35

Yes, but I had the same craving when pregnant! Probably better than snacking on loads of chocolate as it has some goodness in it. The Russian fudge and Pina colada one are amazing!

Orangedaisy · 13/06/2019 16:36

Grin glad to have been of service

Kanga83 · 13/06/2019 16:36

Yes it contains sugar and honey, however you need to look at the nutritional info for your carbs vs sugar and protein intake if you are counting your carbs and sugars per gram (child with diabetes). Are you trying to keep your sugars per gram under a certain amount?

Aberforthsgoat · 13/06/2019 16:39

@Orangedaisy thank you kindly

@kanga83 I normally eat very low carb, low sugar but pregnancy has turned my diet upside down so I’m just trying to keep an eye on my intake so
I’m not going mad. All I seem to want to eat is carbs so I’m trying to eat wholegrain instead.

We call this brand of yoghurt 'yummy yoghurt' in our house - it's by far and away the best yoghurt I've ever tasted!! Yes it has sugar, and no you don't want to be eating gallons of it, but a little won't hurt and it's better for you than a lot of the crappy low sugar but full of dodgy sweeteners alternatives out there. Unless you are really at risk of GD, then crack on and enjoy it! Smile

Aberforthsgoat · 13/06/2019 17:03

True I went a bit overboard and ate half a tub today so will just make sure I don’t do that every day!! Thanks everyone I feel like a total berk for not spotting the obvious SUGAR on the label. Hmm

OP posts:
MrsNai · 13/06/2019 17:07

Eating this yoghurt is helping ease my late pregnancy acid indigestion. They are so delicious!

Mind you only half a tub? It is pretty hard to stop...

longtompot · 13/06/2019 17:08

Easily done. I missed milk in a list of ingredients. My ed is allergic. In my defence it was a curved jar and it was right on the edge Grin

Aberforthsgoat · 13/06/2019 17:17

@MrsNai at least it’s not just me! I’ve only felt up to lying on the sofa today - what a waste of a day, and the yogurt was the high point Grin

@longtompot you’ve made me feel better!

How do you know if the sugar in the ingredients list is natural or added though? If you bought a jar of honey wouldn't it say "honey" in the ingredients even though there's no honey added, because it's honey...?

BarbaraofSevillle · 14/06/2019 08:26

Compote is usually stewed fruit with sugar added. Like a lightly cooked jam.

BarbaraofSevillle · 14/06/2019 08:28

Len

I don't think they have to have an ingredients list if it's a single pure ingredient, ie sugar, honey, flour, salt etc. It would just say that word on the label and you could assume that's all it was.

However, if it was 'honey type spread' that was a mixture of honey and other things, then it would need the ingredients listed in the order from largest to smallest percentage.

H2OH20Everywhere · 14/06/2019 09:32

If you look at the nutrition list it has 13.2% carbs, all sugar. So 13.2 g of sugar per 100g.

Robinsegg · 14/06/2019 17:30

The pot is 150g so total sugar around 21g in a pot. That’s a high sugar food. Low sugar foods are less than 5g per 100g I think. Plain yogurt would contain about 6g for the same size pot.
A teaspoon of sugar is 4g. A can of coke is around 35g of sugar. It’s recommended that adults eat no more than 30g of sugar a day so if you like it and you’re not eating loads of other sugary stuff then enjoy it!

Robinsegg · 14/06/2019 17:42

The large size pot contains 450g and therefore around 63g of sugar in the whole pot. Small pots contain about 21g of sugar. Sugar is always sugar even if it’s ‘natural’ ☹️
