How to fill the time at teenage afternoon tea party

DD wants an afternoon tea for her birthday with her friends, a lovely little cafe near us will do this and have offered us exclusive use.

However, I've realised it's not going to take 2 hours for them to eat and I'm going to have to provide something for them to do, unlike older people who would chat, I've got visions of these 14/15/16 year olds all sat on their phones.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

I would ask your DD what she thinks they'd like to do for the 90 mins or so they're not eating!

Some sort of grown up craft? Jewellery making?
Would the cafe let them bake?

Teacakeandalatte · 12/06/2019 21:39

My dd and her friends would chat for 2 hours!

titchy · 12/06/2019 21:46

Oh I'm sure they'll chat!

Dogsaresomucheasier · 12/06/2019 21:48

Embrace the phones and get them some photo booth props

KayDog · 13/06/2019 00:33

Would the cafe allow some pampering? Nothing too full on, maybe just nails (hands),
some make up etc. Don't know if you've got anymore budget but maybe getting a beauty therapist to come and lead that might be an idea? Would take up 45 mins or so, then they could all take pics and post etc

Are you kidding? Teenage girls can chat for England and do not need organised activities.

Redglitter · 13/06/2019 01:18

Oh theyll be fine chatting. My teenage niece & her friends can easily spend a few hours in Nandos etc

Chatting, eating & taking endless photos of their food & each other will have the time pass in a flash

nocoolnamesleft · 13/06/2019 01:39

They'll spend more time instagramming the food than eating it, which will kill some time.

Singlenotsingle · 13/06/2019 09:53

We were out in a pub the other day and a couple near us (early 20s) were playing triv ial pursuit.

You could chuck in a game of Consequences...

GooodMythicalMorning · 13/06/2019 09:59

They'll spend the time talking, eating and on Insta. no other things needed. as one poster suggested props and little signs would be nice that they can include in their photos.

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 13/06/2019 10:24

They'll spend the first half hour instagramming the cakes.

Deadringer · 13/06/2019 10:29

I would say they will chat too, but just in case you could have a quiz prepared, maybe celebrity trivia or something like that. That doesn't require too much stuff at a small cafe table, just a list of questions, a few notebooks and pens and a few small prizes. You could just produce it if conversation flags. it won't

reluctantbrit · 13/06/2019 10:54

I would have a small quiz or musical bingo as back up.

BellaBellaBelle · 13/06/2019 11:12

Photo booth props are a great idea. You can get some cheap little sets off the internet that are themed (birthday, hen do etc).

brainybriany · 13/06/2019 20:03

Thank you! Problem is there's three groups of kids - school and 2 activities so they won't know each other, so I'm not sure they will chat.

Props is a good idea!
