Buy 1000 acres somewhere north and remote in Canada or Alaska. Build a self sufficient farm, which would mean we would never need to go into a town. Whatever money is left I would bury somewhere on the land

Guadalquivir19 · 18/06/2019 21:13

Pay off the mortgages of my family
Set up trust funds for the family children
Pay for me & my sister to go back to university to do our masters
Pay for the family children to go to private school/university
Buy a holiday home
Buy a large farmhouse & farmland to turn into an assisted living accommodation & provide employment opportunities for disabled young people
Support local SEND charities

Quit work, pay of friends mortgages, chunk to my parents and siblings. Buy a big house in the country with land and stables. Buy loads of horses and pay someone to help look after them. Maybe open a bridal shop for plus sizes, the one I bought my dress from was amazing and I’d love to open one myself

freshasthebrightbluesky · 18/06/2019 23:04

Buy a house with wide does and plenty of plug sockets.

Buy a houseboat and keep it for holidays on the canals.

Stay in the penthouses of posh hotels in the centre of major cities and take photos overlooking the city.

Not bother working but go on plenty of holidays (mainly UK ones) and on practical photography workshops.

Print out and sell my work.

I would tell people I'd won a bit of money but wouldn't let on how much. I'd be a bit generous but make it clear that once it's gone, it's gone.

Hire a few hitmen.

Funny how many wannabe farmers there are on here! I'm a farmer and believe me, you wouldn't choose it!

VirginiaWolfHall · 18/06/2019 23:15

Not tell a soul how much I’ve won, not even the dcs. Actually I would tell dh Grin

Then at a time in the future when fuss has died down and no one knows it was me I would tell all close members of family that I’d won ‘a lot’ on the lottery and give them all at least a million each to pay off mortgages and set up trust funds for nieces and nephews.

I’d then anonymously give out some money to friends who need it.

Y have I have no idea what I’d do with such an extortionate sum and would probably see it as more of a milllstone than a blessing so would want to get rid of most of it and leave enough for dh and I to live in luxury but no more. I’d love to donate some to charities and even my dc’s school as lord knows they need it no thanks to the Tories

Totur · 18/06/2019 23:19

When you're a farmer, it's not glamming around in some fancy wellies! You're a vet, a mechanic, an expert on animal welfare, a midwife, a gynaecologist, an accountant, an administrator, an expert on fencing, dog training, working 20 hour days, a tough grafter, an expert on biology and yielding silage........? You work in rain, snow, ice, hail and sun. You probably walk 10 miles a day, you lose livestock, you fill in forms, you try to keep receipts, you help out your neighbours, you work alone mostly. You're covered in shite on a permanent basis and you probably struggle to make ends meet. Unless you're running a farm from afar, in which case you're not a farmer.

Oh I love this game too.

First, find a fantastic financial advisor.
Then...

Pay off the mortgage of my friends and family. Cash to my parents/PIL, sibling etc.

Money in trust for dc until they are older. I would lie to everyone about how much I’d won. I wouldn’t want dc to lost motivation in finding their own way. I would buy dc’s houses for when they went to Uni so they’d have somewhere clean and safe to live.

I’d get a new car, a personal trainer and shopping trip to Liberty and buy lots of lovely scarves then have someone teach me how to tie them so I look effortless like a Jilly Cooper heroine Grin

I’d give shitloads to charities. Top of the list would be our two local hospices.

LOADS of travelling, first class flights, top notch hotels etc. So many places I want to see.

I’d do courses in things I’ve always wanted to do - art classes, learning to use a pottery wheel, woodworking, bee keeping, photography all sorts of fun stuff!

I’d buy a holiday home in the West Country. I always wished our parents had a holiday home we could pop down to (living in a middle class bubble), I’d love to do that for our dc/grandchildren.

And on that happy note I’m going to bed and dream some more on how to spend my imaginary winnings Smile

gettingtherequickly · 18/06/2019 23:33

I'd pay off the mortgage, invest in a couple of start ups that I think could help the environment, trust fund for the kids and the rest to charity.

beeyourself · 18/06/2019 23:43

If someone gave you a wedge of cash from the lottery - would you have to pay tax on it??

Fibbke · 18/06/2019 23:47

Buy an enormous house with loads of horsey features.

Travel all around the world.

Fibbke · 18/06/2019 23:48

Deffo charity donations. Employ someone to manage the money for me.

Mummoomoocow · 19/06/2019 00:07

First thing I’d do is cry. Really really really sob and sob and bawl and wretch.

Then I would take my baby son to meet my many-years-nc parents and hand them £2m. For no reason other then to say I survived it and fuck you - take this distrusting money and leave each other.

Then... Walk around the council estates and hand random people £5000 for a few days

Then hire a couple of people to start a business up for me - how to give grants to those in vulnerable groups (MH, lone parents, disabled, survivors of abuse, people in exceptional circumstances etc)

Then I’d order a takeaway and drive myself insane thinking about all the things in the world I could afford and yet I will never my sisters back or have caring parents.

I’d then wallow in my chronic depression forever more with the help of a private therapist, cleaner, cook and nanny.

@Totur GrinGrin

Apart from a bigger house and a bit of travelling I can't think of much else I need or want so most would probably go to charity/helping friends and trust funds for the DC.

I've been reading up on what happens when you win. After everything has been verified a Winners Advisor comes to your house to check your ID and release funds or you can go one of the lottery centres in Liverpool or Watford to do it there. They can arrange for someone to come with the Advisor to issue a sum of money straightaway if you need emergency funds for some reason.

One of the Winners Advisors said he loves his job and has never once felt jealous when visiting a winner. I find that last bit hard to believe!
