There are six women in the hairdressers and they all have dyed grey hair

Three staff and three clients, all under about 40. I'm here to get my grey dyed blonde. I feel very out of step with fashion.

Just depends what suits you. I think being grey at age 43 would make me look ten years older, whereas someone younger or older can get away with it.

I might have a go at a rose gold tint to blonde though.

Do you mean the trend to have dyed silver hair on a younger person?
I quite like that look. I always wonder how they do it. Do they have to bleach it first?

Ohnotanothernamechange · 12/06/2019 15:29

It's silver as opposed to grey. A bit like Daenerys Targaryen.

It looks grey. I don't like it en masse like this!

Yeah I think it's more silver than grey but I don't really get it myself? My mum has purple highlights ,she's 77,it's guess it's a modern day blue rinse?

I sat in a room full of students sitting GCSEs this morning. Looking round everyone of the girls had long hair. It occurred to me that I have never in my life had long hair and idlely pondered whether it is too late now. Fifties child whose DM specialised in pudding basin hair cuts, justifying this with 'your hair is too fine to do anything with' - a statement it seems i have forever believed.

Girls now get assumed to be trans if they have short hair, not even gay.

It's definitely a backwards step, IMO.

I'm waiting for my hair to turn pure white (I don't have grey at all, it's pure, snow like and comes through in a single stripe emerging from my forehead and eyebrow and chin) and then I'll have a perfect white bob for the first time.

Which will make a change from slightly damp squirrel colour.

tosh!

dd is regularly called a butch lesbian/asked if she’s a boy at school - nope - she just has a short haircut.
I like the silver grey look.

What crap

RagingWhoreBag · 12/06/2019 18:56

My dD has a Bob and she’s been asked several times if she’s trans or a boy! ConfusedHmm

ShakeYourTailFeathers · 12/06/2019 18:56

Yes it's bleached first and then toned silver. I have it. I'm early 40s and naturally totally grey, but it's drab so i have it silver instead.

JoyceDivision · 12/06/2019 18:58

DD year 7, has had several comments due to her pixie cut including"We thought you were a transgender boy because you had a skirt" "We didn't know if you were a girl.or a boy" "we thought you were a bit" and she gets called "young man"very often by teachers...

Honeyroar · 12/06/2019 18:59

I'm in the same boat OP. I spent two hours at the hairdressers last week having my grey covered while everyone else was having their hair dyed some kind of grey (perhaps with silver or pink tones). I'm obviously behind the times, when I was young it was old ladies that chose these colours!!

Singleandproud · 12/06/2019 19:02

DD 9 also gets asked or assumed that shes a boy all the time, as she has short hair, regardless if she is wearing a dress or not.

A woman I work with has gone silver naturally and looks awesome.

Had my hair done recently and the person doing it wondered out loud about me dying my hair. I haven't in ages and said in the autumn I usually try a chocolatey colour, she said it was better to accept the greys and start going lighter. The owner of the hairdressers overheard and said no way I'd look like the life was sucked out of me, that I needed something rich. They're both amazing but I know grey would do what he said. She had grey hair and it looked stunning

stayathomer · 12/06/2019 19:07

Eastmids why not give it a go?

NaomifromMilkshake · 12/06/2019 19:10

I am very lucky with my shade of silver grey, for serious health reasons (head and neck cancer) I had to dodge getting my hair coloured for two months, the hair that came through was silver not grey, it took a year to grow out but it was worth it, people stop me in the supermarket to ask me if I coloured it myself and if so what shade is it ? Others ask me what hairdresser I used to get it coloured. I use L'oreal purple shampoo and every so often I leave it in for slightly longer and I get a lovely purple hue.

I save a fortune on having my hair coloured. Grin
