Anyone got dental implants?

I have to have a molar extracted - appointment on Monday. They've been through my options and I think an implanted is the best next step for me, so I've booked a consultation for two weeks after the extraction. Has anyone here had one done?

Yes I have seven, ask away

I guess the first question would be how soon after extraction did you start the process? I know there is the consultation and a review of bone density then the actual screw goes in - were you under local anaesthetic, sedation or general for that?
Did you have molars done? Was it worth it?
Thank you for responding!

Bone density checked first with x rays. Tooth extracted under sedation, screw put in and a temporary cap. Dentist then waited three months to make sure screw had taken, then permanent tooth put in. I had molars done, yes worth it because when there is a gap it weakens adjoining teeth and gums apparently. Make sure you have a very good dentist some have jumped on the band wagon who really should not be doing implants. My dentist was Dean of Dentistry, lectured and taught others.

How did you find your dentist? Do you happen to be in the South East?
I didn't realise you could have the implant at the same time as the extraction, maybe that's an option too.

I wouldn't necessarily get implant fitted at same time as extraction. Yes, it's an option, but usually best to let socket heal first. Also it is best to get the implantologist, who will be fitting implant, to do the extraction as well. They use a technique that helps to preserve the bone better.

Ah - I actually have the extraction booked already with someone else from the same practice who is their recommended person for extractions- I'll make sure she knows I need the bone preserved.
I'm just keen to get the process started! I've had trouble with this tooth for years and now it's almost a relief to be told there's nothing that can be done to save it, although it's a rather scary implant journey to be on next.
