Alternative to screen time

I have 7 and 9 year olds.
I've become guilty of letting them watch tv until bedtime after school until bed.
This only happens if it's bad weather. If it's ok weather they play outside.
What activities do you with your children after school? I'm thinking of allowing maybe an hour of screen time and then off after this. Although I am aware of their need to relax..
Any thoughts? Thank you.

My DSD9 usually helps with dinner / she's making us all chilli as I type this (under supervision of course). She'll often come to me with recipes she's found online and ask if we can try it

Baths
Books
Toys
Craft
Homework
Let them be bored and they’ll find their imaginations.

Activity/puzzle books, if they don't read much?

I'd allow a certain amount of the before tea but have a blanket no TV rule after tea. However I feed them about an hour after school so it might not work if you eat at 730!

I normally have no tv until after tea rule.

We've started game night twice a week which means we don't watch screens at all. They do homework, sports clubs, dinner and then we play games. No screens.
And we have "art night" where I set up all their art stuff and let them go crazy.
With the lighter nights it's really easy. When we've nothing else to do, I just send them outside and they shoot basketball hoops for hours!

Such good ideas.
Thank you all!

We play card or board games quite a bit, the dc are also keen to play out wherever possible. Building a Lego world together, or making a den out of sofa cushions or craft activities all work well. They quite like being read to as well. We've been gardening a lot this week.

Generally the dc aren't keen until I get something out, bit then they get in the mood.
