New job, paying for dbs

I have just been offered a job as a domiciliary carer (was pretty much the only thing I could find with hours that suit).

In the job advert it did state that the post was subject to dbs clearance, which is fine as I've never even been so much as cautioned, but the company are asking me to pay for it

Does anyone else have any experience of this or is this a big red flag?

If you have to pay up front (not ideal) you should be able to claim back. Not ideal.

Big red flag. I've done the test several times and the organisation asking has always paid for it.

They want it - they should pay for it. I don't think it's very expensive though.

I applied for an Nhs post recently and I have to pay for mine. You can pay upfront or they will pay take it out of first month's salary. So I'd say it's a bit shitty but fine.

It's a private company but under the NHS

I've previously worked for 2 private care companies and both had me pay for it but I did the application in their office and it was deducted from my first months wages

Im a domiciliary care worker and I had to pay for mine

I called them back a while ago and they said I'll be refunded six weeks from my start date so that's a bit of a relief!

From the sounds of it it'll be done in office too. Don't think you can apply for an enhanced dbs on your own anyway?
