Calling all coffee drinkers!! Help!

At the grand old age of 30, I've finally started drinking and enjoying coffee. I've got a coffee machine which I can make myself a latte with. I seem to prefer more milky coffee. I was thinking of getting a cafetière but don't really know how they work. Do you use instant coffee in those? Or the type of coffee I'm using in my coffee machine? Does coffee taste different from a cafetière than it does if you just make a cup of instant coffee directly from the kettle into the mug?

Sorry for this post sounding so stupid. I'm literally clueless 🙈

This is the coffee I'm using in the coffee machine:

Use the same coffee you use in the machine. It'll taste very similar to your coffee machine coffee. I put in a heaped dessert spoon of coffee per person. Stir and leave for a couple of minutes before plunging it down.

In my opinion it will taste a lot better than a cup of instant coffee Grin

Sooo much better than instant coffee Brew

Great. Does it stay fairly warm in a cafetière? Would it only really be suitable for when I have people visiting or would you use it just to have a couple of cups of coffee for yourself?

You use ground coffee in a cafetiere. Or grind your own beans and use those. Much nicer than instant. Have a look at an aeropress though...I love mine!

Aeropress is perfect for coffee for 1. I only use cafetiere when I have more than two cups to make.

We have a metal insulated cafetiere, stays drinking hot for hours.

I use our cafetiere (a big 6 person one) just for me, it keeps warm fairly well - I use a dessert spoon of coffee per cup as per previous posters, and I make about half a pot's worth which keeps me going all morning. You could also try a stove top expresso maker or an aeropress as well as these make nice small quantities of coffee.

Just stir your coffee into the hot water, leave it to brew a bit (the longer the brew the stronger it will be, I go for about 5 mins), then push the lid down to avoid getting a mouthful of grounds! It 100% tastes different/better than instant and also has a different, much thicker texture... Warm your milk and/or get a milk frother for that coffee-shop latte/cappuccino style.

The only negative I would say to a cafetiere is the mess, I always manage to spill some ground when spooning it in, and then again when scraping it out afterwards, and we have had issues with sink blockages as well so you need to be careful when pouring the waste down the sink! I find coffee machines usually a bit neater than a cafetiere for cleaning out purposes...

I used to have a cafetière but got rid of it when I discovered Azera coffee. It's only made by Nestle, nothing fancy, but I just prefer it.
