10 week old development

Hi all,

This is my first time posting on here. I am looking for some reassurance. DD2 is 10 weeks old and can hardly hold her head up. Her head is still quite floppy most of the time and she cannot lift herself up with her arms when doing tummy time. DD1 could do these things by 9 weeks and was sitting up by 4 months but DD2 is showing no signs of head or upper body strength and its causing me anxiety. I am a stay at home mum and feel extremely lonely and depressed.

Try not to worry. My firstborn didn't roll over at all until 10 months and resolutely hated tummy time the whole time. He didn't walk until 18 months, now he's almost six and you honestly wouldn't know.

If you're worried could you call the HV for some reassurance?

Thanks for responding. I have called the HV and am awaiting a call back to book a visit. I think my anxiety in general is getting the better of me. I will also speak to her about my mental health. I hate that I analyse every little thing and I seem to be constantly looking for problems to worry myself about. I didn't have any of this with my first so I've surprised myself with how I am the second time around. I just hope things get easier.

There are two aspects to this. It might be anxiety and/or PND and the GP might be able to help. But it may be that your maternal instinct has picked up something subtle. Don’t ignore it- go to the GP as well. Ask for referrals. Yes, children do develop at different rates but there is no harm in getting things checked out. It might be that she needs some simple physio to sort things out.

Thank you potolbabu. I am also planning to visit the GP to discuss my concerns. My little one has been smiling for weeks and has great eye contact/follows objects so doing well in other areas.
