Reported, blatant advertising

Hsaansnsn6776 · 10/06/2019 18:49

Oh my goodness! I’m not... please! I’m genuinely not! 😂

Well forget the name then... would you consider sending dc on this?

Hi OP,
Don't worry, we are happy for this to stand. Anyone able to give OP their thoughts?
(Fwiw I was sent abroad aged 14 and had a wonderful time - but now I have kids I am a little horrified that my parents were cool with this. No idea what I will do when my DCs are that age).

SnowsInWater · 11/06/2019 10:59

It looks pretty cool to me. Does your DD want to go? Mine would definitely want to go with a friend.

Hsaansnsn6776 · 11/06/2019 18:16

Dd was the one who suggested it! She specifically doesn’t want to go with a friend as is really wanting to be doing stuff like this at the moment as is hoping to move schools for sixth form and is generally quite shy but wants to push herself out of her comfort zone.... Confused

Sounds fantastic. I would definitely allow my dc to do this if I thought they were sensible enough, and if extensive research showed good safeguarding.

I went interrailing round Europe when I was fifteen (just before I turned 16, to be fair), and I learnt so much whilst having a brilliant time. God knows how my parents coped though, dropping me off at the ferry port and relying on only postcards and a weekly phone call to know I was ok.

Ofitck · 11/06/2019 19:43

Definitely, I was sent abroad from 14 (to stay with families who were friends of friends of friends of friends who happened to have a Dd my age - this seems much safer!) it did wonders for my confidence.

With regards to safeguarding Spain is much the same as the uk, there is a similar process to CRB checking and actually children are really well cared for in Spain.

Plus in terms of language learning, immersion is the best way by far.

SnowsInWater · 12/06/2019 00:07

Book her in then 😊

Bloodybridget · 12/06/2019 04:45

It looks great - but a pity they can't spell "enrol". Is your DD keen, does she have any Spanish already? Would she enjoy most of the activities mentioned, watersports etc.?

Hsaansnsn6776 · 12/06/2019 07:05

Think I’m going to book her in! Ahhhh scary! But I know she’ll love it! She does Spanish at GCSE and is hoping to also do it at Alevel. She does seem to love Spanish! She’s been begging me to book her in but I’ve just been too nervous! Thanks all!

If she's begging to go, then I would say yes, children go on camp in USA as standard, can't see why this is different.

Bloodybridget think it's US/British spelling.

Bloodybridget · 12/06/2019 17:34

Yes KnittingSister, I hadn't thought of that!
