Hey! 👋🏼
My daughter will be 9 months old this week and is still struggling with reflux
I called the dr this morning to see if we could change dosage or try something else

Baby weighs 21 pounds 5oz and is 73cm height (not sure if you need height?

Dr said 2ml of ranitidine three times a day

Does anybody know the calculation for what baby should be on?

Thanks in advance xxx

Is there any reason you think a random person on Mumsnet will know better than your GP?

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 10/06/2019 13:14

Your pharmacist should advise, not randoms on the internet.

Was an over the phone gp who was in a rush and i think ive seen people put the calculation here before.

If you feel your GP has made a mistake the raise it with the surgery.

Check the dosage with the pharmacist.

From my calculations anything between 1.3 - 2.5ml three times a day is within the recommended dose so that sounds fine.

9.66kg, dose 2-4mg/kg TID, 15mg/ml solution

Woops meant to add I'm not a doctor/pharmacist. So you may as well ignore me and ask an actual HCP

SleepDeprived2018 · 10/06/2019 13:32

Thanks nannypear will of course ask pharmacist when i pick up prescription just wondered what calculation was as it was a big jump from what she was on xx

If its the pharmacy where you got the previous prescription(s), then they should make note of the change in dose. They should also flag up that its a paediatric prescription and therefore should double check dosages.

No probs! I'll probably get shouted at for giving medical advice unqualified. I'm a vet and calculate ranitidine doses on a daily basis, probably more than GPs tbh!

It seems a middle of the range dose and doses should always be changed as the baby grows, but often that's forgotten about (I've had 2 reflux babies!). It could have been that she was in the lower end of the dose range to begin with, and that coupled with a weight change is why you see a big jump.
