Outdoor wedding/camping and rain (how to keep guests warm and dry)

We've had a whirlwind of planning our wedding and it has all come together (thanks to so many of you who have helped!). It will be next Saturday, 200 guests in a series of marquees in the grounds of my parents smallholding. Roughly 60 guests also planned to camp.

I did not consider the possibility of rain. It is now very much forecast. (Yes, this was stupid!)

The most important thing to me is that our guests will be warm and dry but I don't know how I can achieve that. The whole thing has been very DIY so no one to go to necessarily.

Any ideas? What would you appreciate as a guest in these circumstances?

Honestly, I'm happy to throw money at the situation at the moment just to ensure that everyone isn't entirely miserable and freezing.

Please hit me with your ideas. And thank you in advance

Ah just read you’re update, sounds like you’re nailing it! Hope you have a lovely day despite the weather

Sounds like you've got this all under control, OP! It will be a lovely day.

Make sure you have got something to keep warm, all the worry about the guests but make sure the bride has what she needs too!!
Guests will (hopefully) come as prepared as they can. And they'll soon warm up when the dancing starts. You could do a welcome shot of tequila as well 😂 always warms me up. Or brandy

Sand or sawdust to dry mud out? The good news is it's meant to actually stop raining on Friday

I would hire space heaters:

For the marquee and outbuilding. People will dry out quicker and sat in damp clothes will make you so cold.

Thanks for the link @Alabasterangel6 but we've been able to get some heaters through another friend of my dad's so hopefully all sorted there too.

Also thank you to those saying I'm nailing it! I wasn't stressed at all until it started raining... and I realised I didn't have a contingency plan for boggy grass and cold guests!

@Myimaginarycathasfleas - not sure what you mean! Please elaborate, I'm interested!

@stucknoue - I bloody Hope it stops raining on Friday! Or at least warms up a bit. I had the heating on today!

Thinking of you, OP! Was the wedding today?

RedPink · 15/06/2019 19:48

If it was today then hopefully the weather was ok as it’s mostly dry.

Apologies for not coming back to the thread! We went straight on honeymoon and all my planning woes were forgotten - it was a fabulous day. It wasn't without a few many "issues" but no one was cold, it only drizzled a little in the evening and guests all seemed to have a good time too. Thanks for all your help, lovely MNers!
