Anyone good at baking? Can I substitute a round cake tin for a loaf tin?

Sorry, bit boring!
I usually prefer loaf cakes as less showy. But want to make a more celebratory round cake.
DH has requested my traditional recipe (lime and coconut loaf).
Can I just stick it in a round tin? Do I need to change anything (cooking time? Temperature?)

It'll be fine, you may want to make more cake mix - if suggest two batches and combine after - as circular tins hold more volume.

You'll need to adjust cooking time too - just test the centre with a skewer for doneness

Agree with above! It'll be fine, though it will most likely take less time to cook so keep an eye on it. Loaf cakes tend to take about an hour, layer cakes only take about 20 minutes ime

it's fine.
might need less cooking time if shallower than in the loaf tin

Thank you - love the tip of making 2 batches of mix, so simple but I would never have thought of it! Didn't realise it might take so much less time to cook either!

Recipe is my grandmother's: 8oz each of butter and sugar creamed together. Add the zest of 2 limes.
Add 3 eggs one by one with tablespoon plain flour each. Then add 8oz SR flour. Finally add juice from the limes, and 2oz desiccated coconut. Cook for 1 hour on gas mark 3. Sprinkle more coconut on top when cooled.

Everything I cook in a loaf tin takes forever to cook. I guess it's because they're deep with a small surface area. So I'd be prepared for it to take more time.

Thank you!!
