Premier Inn bedbugs. Wwyd?

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 09/06/2019 21:38

So, l got these after a one night stay in a Premier Inn. I was covered from head to toe all the time l was out, and slept with the window closed. They are like nothing I’ve ever had before. I’ve googled lots of tones, and they look the same and are in lines rather than clusters. I have very bad reactions to bites but these have been the worst ever. By a process of elimination, they can only be bedbugs.

I contacted them via email, but it takes 10 days to reply. There will be a million bugs by then. I contacted them by messenger, but as the booking was in Dh’s Name they will only speak to him and he doesn’t do social media.

He tried several times to phone their customer helpline, being kept on hold etc go a long time. When he did get through eventually, someone went to speak to someone about it for a minute. 10 minutes later they weren’t back and then he got cut off. No one called him back.

Do I put these in Trip Adviser or Twitter?

They absolutely look like bed bug bites to me. The classic “breakfast, lunch and dinner” pattern. We had them and they were a complete nightmare, and very expensive, to get rid of. You need to ditch your bags and wash any clothing as hot as possible. If the stay was a week ago it may be too late and you might need to fumigate/heat treat.

Absolutely post on Twitter.

I complained to premier inn via email and got a reply straight away and refund of the accommodation.
If it’s bedbugs you won’t be the only one complaining I imagine.

Which Premier Inn??? My DH and boys stay in them most weekends for sporting events!

AntiHop · 09/06/2019 22:16

Can you tell us which one? I've got a night booked in an airport PI coming up.

Poor you op, looks really painful.

FrankiesKnuckle · 09/06/2019 22:25

From bitter experience of the bastards, they bite anywhere.

Can't emphasise enough that any clothing or bags you had will have to be washed/destroyed.

We gained some from either a holiday inn or a very nice hotel in Greece.

An infestation can grab hold very quickly.

Check your bed frame, behind headboard, mattress seams.

If you start seeing tiny dark spots on your sheets.... burn the house.

Ok, last bit a joke but the cost to fully remove was thousands. And it's not covered by contents insurance.

First thing I do now if I stay anywhere is thoroughly check the beds and seams. And put my bags on those little frames!

EstuaryBird · 09/06/2019 22:47

Also been a reluctant host to these little darlings!

Can only reinforce what others have said........they’re devils to get rid of once they get indoors.

You have an advantage as you are aware that you’ve been in contact and chances are you’ve bought a couple of pioneers home with you. I would get in touch with a pest control firm that specialises in bedbugs first thing tomorrow and get them round to give you advice before the little bastards get settled in.

If you’re in the London area I recommend David Cain, there’s nothing that man doesn’t know about bedbugs!

Hmmmbop · 09/06/2019 22:58

Only down one side of your body? Have you been run down recently and are you sure they aren't shingles?

GiveMeAllTheGin8 · 09/06/2019 23:01
Shock
SqueakyChicken · 09/06/2019 23:06

They would only be down one side. They’re lazy, they bite whatever’s closest to the mattress.

I’m sorry OP, as others have stressed please check cases and your bed, included the base, for these. They are awful to remove.

friedbeansandcheese · 09/06/2019 23:12

Omg! We have stayed at premier inns for years, never had any problems.. That twitter feed was terrifying.

GCAcademic · 09/06/2019 23:19

Well, this is just what I want to read given that I’m booked into a PI later this week. It’s not one of the Edinburgh ones, is it, OP?

Sizeofalentil · 09/06/2019 23:41

Your local council might do bedbug treatment for free if you've been unlucky enough to bring any home with you btw

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 10/06/2019 07:41

It was an Edinburgh one. They aren’t mozzie bites, I’ve had millions of those before. And it’s definitely not shingles, as I’ve had that 3 times😖.

I’ll tweet it l think

They could be something else too, perhaps you should have them looked at - it's quite possible the previous occupant of the room brought them in (in suitcases is common) and they got under the mattress but of the hotel chains they are one of the cleanest rooms

QOD · 10/06/2019 08:00

Ugh! Poor
You

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 10/06/2019 16:31

But what else could they be? I was covered head to foot during the day. Nothing could get in.

Loads of hotels have bedbug problems. They are notoriously hard to get rid of. It happens in 5 star hotels as well as Premier Inns. I always check for signs before unpacking just in case. Sadly even if the room is clean it is no guarantee there won’t be bedbugs. They are just hard to eliminate.

The maternity unit of a hospital had to close recently because of an infestation. Shock

Cherry321 · 10/06/2019 21:58

Please say it wasn’t Princes St - I stay there with work quite often 🤢

I live in Edinburgh, OP. This is horrific. I'd be happy to hand deliver a letter, or do whatever I can to help. Probably a daft suggestion, but I feel terrible that this happened to you in my hometown!
