What alcohol would you have for a garden/wedding party?

We get married in 5 weeks. We have one bottle of gin so far 😂🙈 we have 25 friends coming in a garden party style. Hired a bell tent and having lots of food.

What drinks would you have? Just spirts and tonics? Or what 😩

I had a similar number of friends and family for an anniversary garden party. We did jugs of Pimms, champagne for a toast, white and rose wine, a couple of crates of beer and lots of soft drinks. We had tubs full of ice dotted around the garden with the drinks in.

I should have laid on a flipping urn as the kettle appeared to be on non stop.

Sexnotgender · 09/06/2019 20:37

Wine, beer or cider.

Spirits are a faff.

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 09/06/2019 20:38

Wine, cider, beer. People tolerate those better than spirits in quantity, I've found.

Pimms

OhMyGodTheyKilledKenny · 09/06/2019 20:40

i would avoid the spirits TBH as it could get messy! Grin

Pimms would be great - traditional summery drink, looks lovely with fruit in, not too strong etc so ideal for daytime drinking

I would also offer chilled white and rose wines, chilled beers and lots of soft drinks.

HelenaJustina · 09/06/2019 20:42

I prefer cava to Prosecco so shed loads of that in ice buckets. Bottled beer, white and red wine. Much more white than red, especially if the weather is good.

Plenty of sparkling water or lemonade etc for drivers.

Urn is a great shout, especially later in the afternoon.

Redtartanshoes · 09/06/2019 20:43

Problem with gin is needing measure garnish ice and tonic.

Prosecco white red and beer + soft drinks

MummyCool19 · 09/06/2019 20:43

I feel like posh wine would be wasted on them 😂😩

Mostly 20s, relaxed hippies 😂

Prosecco, plain or with elderflower or as a Kir, for a drink on arrival.
Pimms, wine, fruit drinks, probably some beer, champagne for the toasts.
Some supermarkets lend glasses which is useful.

Have a wonderful day! Wine Thanks

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 09/06/2019 20:44

Definitely Pimms

BlueSkiesLies · 09/06/2019 20:46

Everything!

Pimms
Champagne or cava
Beer
Cider
Red and white wine
Spirits and mixers

BlueSkiesLies · 09/06/2019 20:47

Where would we get ice buckets

Any bucket or container + ice

Those big plastic garden trug things are good

TheWoollybacksWife · 09/06/2019 20:47

Ask at a supermarket if you can have any of the buckets they use for their flowers. They gave our school PTA some to use for an event. Scrub thoroughly and fill with ice. Otherwise buy buckets at Wilko or The Range.

Sexnotgender · 09/06/2019 20:48

Don’t buy posh wine thenGrin Lidl or Aldi wine is definitely drinkable.

Have you got any cool boxes? You don’t need ice buckets as such. Chuck bags of ice from supermarket in.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 09/06/2019 20:50

Jugs of Pimms, Prosecco, various tonics for your gin along with garnishes, bottles of lager, a rum (dark or spiced), a whiskey, soft drinks.

Lilac3 · 09/06/2019 20:52

Wine, beer, cider
I agree with the person who said mostly white wine, especially in summer.
Tesco do great offers on wine.

Enough Champagne for one glass each, on arrival or for a toast

I often get alcopops in Lidl, they do their version of Smirnoff ices including flavored ones like orange etc, people seem to love them.

Plenty non alcoholic drinks too.

Congratulations 🍾🎊🎈

Is it sad that I opened this thread just to read about summery booze as I'm pregnant and have been fantasising about cold large glasses of white wine...

I'd go fizz (cava, champagne, prosecco, whatever), beers (maybe couple of kegs of craft ale if it's a hipster crowd) and maybe a pre mixed gin cocktail or Pimm's - pre mix the cocktail so it's not too strong.

Or you could just get everyone to bring a bottle?

Fingers crossed the weather perks up for you!

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 09/06/2019 20:53

We fill one of these (ikea) with ice when we have house parties

MummyCool19 · 09/06/2019 20:53

Thank you all!!

Where would you suggest buying it from? We were going to do an a Ocado order 😂

OP posts:
BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 09/06/2019 20:53

Aldi!

BogglesGoggles · 09/06/2019 20:54

Champagne is a must and then nice spirits with a choice of mixers. Wine is quite fussy and not good for garden parties (to heavy for the garden part vibe by and large and also attracts midges). Many people would appreciate things like beer etc if you can be bothered. The good thing about spirits is that they can be mixed (or not) accord to the drinkers taste and they are also less likely to result in awkward drunken behaviour/cause bad hangovers (I have no idea why it I’ve noticed that people drunk of wine or ale etc tend to be far less predicatable and I certainly suffer when I drink them).

HelenaJustina · 09/06/2019 20:56

Another vote for Aldi. Good quality and a much better price!

Garden trugs make great large ice buckets. Half full with ice/water and stuff stays cold for ages.

Jsmith99 · 09/06/2019 20:57

Offer some alcohol-free beer for the drivers.

Ohyesiam · 09/06/2019 21:01

We’re having

Bubbly
Red wine
White wine
Beer
Cider

Coke
Lemonade
Oj
Fizzy water

Tea
Coffee

No spirits
