I am about to ask the most stupid baking question.

This recipe is for 12 fairy cakes. If I want 24 do I just double all the ingredients?
Yes, I realise this is a stupid question but I don't want a sloppy mess. I'm in a rush and need these buns!
[[100 g (4 oz) softened butter
100 g (4 oz) caster sugar
2 large eggs
100 g (4 oz) self-raising flour
1 level tsp baking powder
225 g (8 oz) sifted icing sugar
2-3tbsp warm water
handful of sweets, to decorate

Yes, double it

Gribbie · 09/06/2019 08:18

Yes. Just double it.

thanksamillion · 09/06/2019 08:18

Yes! Just double everything and you'll be fine.

Although I’d not double the baking powder.

SnuggyBuggy · 09/06/2019 08:19

Should be fine, just be careful not to overmix

2015newstart · 09/06/2019 08:19

Yes you do.

Another tip is to weigh the eggs and use the same weight of sugar, flour and butter.

2015newstart · 09/06/2019 08:20

And I agree with gribble, don't double the baking powder.

thanksamillion · 09/06/2019 08:20

If it was a cake you were baking in one tin you might need to adjust the temperature and length of time to make sure the middle was cooked but as the buns will be equal sized you don't even need to do that.

Soola · 09/06/2019 08:20

I always add a splash of milk to my fairy cakes.

adagio · 09/06/2019 08:23

I always remember it as same of everything and half as many eggs (only works for oz!). And buttercream if you wanted it is half the weight of butter to icing sugar.

It's an AGA to add the the confusion. And I cannot find anywhere on the internet where and how long they should cook for. Mary Berry you have deserted us!Grin
Thanks all.

I usually do cupcakes for about 15-20 minutes and muffins for 20-25

EleanorLavish · 09/06/2019 08:31

In an Aga Snuggy? Bottom set of runners in roasting oven with cold plain shelf on second set? That's what I'm thinking.

Yes that is exactly where I’d cook mine. If you have two trays you could pop the other one into the next oven down at the top... IYSWIM!
You may need to swap them over near the end but be quick! And don’t do it until they’re pretty well cooked.
