We're travelling from the North East to Cornwall stopping at various places on the way to and fro. We have NT passes so would like to use them. Would love recommendations please. TIA

Do you have a route you'll be taking or are you flexible?

Buscake · 08/06/2019 20:17

Stourhead in Wiltshire

PotteringAlong · 08/06/2019 20:18

Fountains abbey, although that might be a bit close to the North East!

KatnissMellark · 08/06/2019 20:19

Off the M5 by Bristol there are two which are perfect for stopping on the way to Devon/Cornwall. Can't remember their names but the one built by the guy who made a fortune from bird poop is particularly good. Affectionately known as birdshit manor in our house.

BernardsBum · 08/06/2019 20:21

Shugborough near Stafford (J13 M6)
Hanbury Hall near Droitwich (J5 M5)
Croome near Pershore (J7 M5)
Castle Drogo in Devon (A30 at Whiddon Down). This is my favourite - always stop here when going to Cornwall

We went to snowhill the other day (me Evesham) and it was fab! Different to the other Midlands NT places we had been to.

I'm following as NT is going to be pretty much our only summer treats.

NoWordForFluffy · 08/06/2019 20:23

We love Shugborough and stop there regularly.

BernardsBum · 08/06/2019 20:23

Tyntesfield is the bird poo place. Forgot about that one - have to book there for the house

Needcoffeecoffeecoffee · 08/06/2019 20:23

Sudbury toy museum is a nice change. Grounds are nice too and the museum lots of fun

RiojaHaze · 08/06/2019 20:26

Corfe Castle is my absolute favourite.

lurkingattheback · 08/06/2019 20:26

Belton Hose bear Grantham. Great outdoor play area if you have kids, and plenty to walk around.
Baddesy Clinton (?) next Birmingham. Nice to walk around.

Duchessofealing · 08/06/2019 20:27

As you’re in Cornwall definitely St Michael’s Mount

TotheletterofthelawTHELETTER · 08/06/2019 20:27

Crag side is my absolute favourite but you’re driving away from it!

AlannaOfTrebond · 08/06/2019 20:29

Another vote for Croome, between Worcester and Pershore.

vicarlady · 08/06/2019 20:29

Knightshayes Court, near Tiverton . Killerton House, Broadclyst, Exeter.

BrillyPribble · 08/06/2019 20:29

My absolute favourite is Lanhydrock but that's in Cornwall itself so not good for a stop off! Tyntesfield is good too.

yellowsun · 08/06/2019 20:32

Love tyntesfield.

Also Dunster Castle although we didn’t go inside- planning to this summer when we are back down.

maddy68 · 08/06/2019 20:36

Little Morton hall,. Cheshire

Marshmarigoldssss · 08/06/2019 20:36

Hardwick Hall is a good stopping point - think it's closeish to the M1. Also Castle Drogo when you get to Devon. But Cragside is my favourite NT place - not useful for your journey!

BarkandCheese · 08/06/2019 20:37

Another vote for Lanhydrock when you’re in Cornwall. We went for a quick visit to walk the dog when we were on holiday last year and ended up going back twice.

Sparklyring · 08/06/2019 20:46

So many suggestions! Thank you all :-) We're lucky that Cragside is near enough to us for a day out as we do love it.

Placemarking as we will be driving from Cheshire to Cornwall.

Any must sees in Cornwall too?

Honeyplop · 08/06/2019 20:52

Calke Abbey in the summer is beautiful! The gardens are very rustic and they have a field of wild flowers. Inside the house is fascinating as it's crammed with so much treasure and tat!

ShellieEllie · 08/06/2019 20:52

Saltram, Plymouth, Devon.

Ronsters · 08/06/2019 20:57

I love Hardwick Hall, lovely gardens.
Calke Abbey in Derbyshire.
Montacute House was interesting.
I also really liked Seaton Delaval (NE), main house was largely destroyed by fire but well worth a visit.
The Workhouse, Southwell.
