Can anyone recommend something?
The problem is that he's in that in between stage. Lots of the 12 rating series are too young but I'm not comfortable watching 15's with him.

Can be anything really, comedy, drama, sci fi?

Also, Star Trek next generation has some questionable episodes!

Really? do tell.

NotTheChef · 08/06/2019 21:21

Friday night dinner, IT crowd, red dwarf and father ted are a good call, also thought black adder. We've watched modern family, still are.

don't have amazon prime, but may be able to get my mums password as so many of you have said good daemons.

He'd love the marvel series on netflix but they're too violent, and I've watched them all Smile

Things like firefly (although I loved it) buffy and star trek might be a bit dated for him. He's very critical if special effects aren't good, I thought he would love Die Hard but he spent the whole film saying 'that's ridiculous' Hmm.

We've watched some Sabrina, Derry Girls, Friday Night Dinner, Modern Family and Umbrella Academy. He's 14 now though I'm less uncomfortable with swearing (he said Derry Girls is like his school!).

EDIT: - apart obviously from the ones where Brett Spinner tries to act or Jonathon Frakes thinks he's sexy. Very dodgy.

Friday night dinner big hit in our house with 11y old

Greenvalleymama · 08/06/2019 21:40

Hawaii five-O is fantastic, my 13yr old son loves it (so do I!). Death in paradise, Moone Boy, Ghosts, and Shakespeare and Hathaway have also been watched and enjoyed here.

TheSandman · 08/06/2019 21:43

Personally, if all my child was interested in was the quality of the special effects - and couldn't get past the fact that they weren't 'good' - to the important things like story and character, I would give up trying to watch anything with him.

BogglesGoggles · 08/06/2019 21:43

I was going to suggest Sabrina on Netflix but it contains way to much cannibalism for my liking. I really think you need to be more specific about what you consider inappropriate. Everyone has such different views of what is ok at that age.

LtGreggs · 08/06/2019 21:45

My 12yo DS has recently discovered Stargate on Prime and is watching through hundreds of episodes.

BogglesGoggles · 08/06/2019 21:45

@TheSandman she’s talking about 90s reruns not Marlon Brando as Mark Antony

TooDamnSarky · 08/06/2019 21:45

Mine love:
Death in paradise
Once upon a time

Beechview · 08/06/2019 21:45

Ds loved stranger things and Merlin.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 08/06/2019 21:47

DS notices that special effects are much better now but he still loved Buffy and is enjoying Angel now - for him great stories and interesting characters are much more important.

He loved Outnumbered. We have also been watching Arrow, Flash, Legends of Tomorrow and Supergirl together.

Disfordarkchocolate · 08/06/2019 21:47

Once Upon a Time and Grimm were popular at that age too.

SisterMaryLoquacious · 08/06/2019 21:49

Good Omens will be on the BBC later in the year so no need to get Amazon Prime specially.

unicorncupcake · 08/06/2019 21:53

Brooklyn nine nine is really funny and completely harmless. Spaced is old but very funny. Black books is BRILLIANT.

unicorncupcake · 08/06/2019 21:53

Good Omens is brilliant as well.

Shortysoso · 08/06/2019 21:54

Mine love schitts creek

ThePhoenixRises · 08/06/2019 21:56

Merlin - my DC loved it

Chernobyl?

Modern family?

RollsEyes · 08/06/2019 21:57

I haven't read the whole thread, but Stranger Things? The first 2 series are on Netflix - watch them before the third series starts on 4th July.

It's one of the only things that myself and my 3 children - with an age spread of 12 years - loved watching together.

Santa Clarita's Diet

SafetyLightsAreForDudes · 08/06/2019 22:15

Stranger Things
Umbrella Academy
The Good Place
Schitt's Creek
Brooklyn 99
One Day at a Time

All on Netflix and DS2 (almost 12) has enjoyed all of them. I think they might all be 15, although for some it's only the occasional episode that pushes the rating of the whole season up. The last four are lovely and funny shows that are well worth watching, the first two are probably a bit closer to the wire as they can be scary/violent so if that's not your thing then maybe hold off for a year or so.

We watched Good Omens this week too and he loved it, so definitely give that a try as well

FogCutter · 09/06/2019 08:22

We don't have Netflix or Prime, is there anything available on eg 'normal telly' Shock iPlayer or NowTv that you could recommend?

bert3400 · 09/06/2019 08:25

Ghosts on BBC2. Me and DS11 really loved watching it . It's made by the Horrible histories lot but aimed more at the grown up market. It's very funny

horseymum · 09/06/2019 08:28

Hustle! A bit dated but my dad loves it we've got an actual physical box set. House, ditto.
