Chicken pox but no other symptoms?

My twins are 2.5, chickenpox has been going round their nursery for nearly 3 months, I figured they’d been super lucky and missed it.

On Friday morning I noticed two odd spots on DT1’s face but he had scratched them so I was unsure.

Today he has 15-20 on his face / neck / stomach and some of them look like little blisters. But they’re not red which is odd.

Also he isn’t ill or bothered by them at all - no temp, no crying, no scratching. Rushed out this morning and bought stuff, gave him a dose of Piriton and calpol at 9am but nothing since as he’s totally fine. Haven’t even used the gel!

Can it really be chicken pox if he’s not itchy or bothered?

What’s weird is that DT2 seems really unwell - temp, distressed, no appetite, not sleeping well - so I guess he may be in the few days before blisters erupt but DT1 hasn’t been like that at all.

They both have ASD and are non-verbal but that doesn’t usually stop them from showing when they’re ill!

He’s got more on his chest and tummy now but not lots. So odd they’re not bugging him.

What’s worrying is that I feel really ill today - DH has looked after them while I’ve spent almost all day in bed sleeping, feel like I’ve been hit by a truck.

Some get it worse than others. It’s perfectly possible he’s got the spots but no other symptoms. Be grateful!
It does sound like his twin is coming down with it too, the spots will probably appear over the next few days.
Have you had chicken pox?

SoyDora · 08/06/2019 18:45

Oh and they tend to itch when the blister bursts.

Itching tends to come later. I'm sure it was day 3 when dds were worst

My two yr old had pox a month ago, because he was so well and happy I spent the first day think it was mosquito bites ( we have tons here) and then after he got a few more on his neck of all places and a few on his legs are was sure it was the pox. He was a happy chappy throughout, bunged a bit of cooling stuff on him on the ones on his neck as they were irritating. Other than that we sailed through it. Feeling very lucky !
Unlike my daughter many years ago who was very ill .

Yes, I am reasonably sure I had it when I was a child but I definitely had measles, so maybe I’m remembering wrong? My mum passed away a few years ago so I’m not sure. I really do feel awful, like I’ve been hit by a truck - I have ME so I’m used to fatigue but this is horrendous, couldn’t even sit up earlier.

Poor little monkeys. Really regretting not getting them vaccinated now but we’ve all been ill on a constant loop since January, it’s kept being pushed down the list of things to do!

If he’s got it and he’s not unwell (so far) then that’s brilliant, but wasn’t sure that was possible!

Not sure whether to use the gel as this might draw his attention to it! Will keep giving Piriton and calpol.

Just spotted DT2 has something that may be a blister in the corner of his mouth. Argh.

Okay, so the itching generally comes later? Good to know. Will keep him dosed up!

My DD got the spots but that was it and she was covered with spots head to toe. No scratching, fever or general poorliness just lots and lots of spots.

My eldest was COVERED and didn't need any calpol or piriton, except at night because she is a hot sleeper. We had to have her checked because my dad was in ICU and they were certain she wouldn't have it as she hadn't even been grumpy. Then the spots appeared and appeared!

My youngest had them everywhere. Piriton and Calpol did the trick apart from one rough few hours one night. The rest of the time she sailed through it too.

Oh it’s good to hear some positive stories - right now it looks like we have one who’s going to really struggle and one who’s finding it a bit less difficult. Could change obviously but I’ve given calpol and Piriton before bed anyway just in case it gets worse tonight - they do tend to get hot in their sleep when they’re ill so hopefully that will help.

The one who’s struggling has barely slept or napped for days so he really needs some rest :(

DT2 keeps waking up very distressed and then dropping back off, think we are in for a long night :(

Boy did I jump the gun. He’s been an absolute trooper but today he’s inconsolable, super itchy and breaking his heart. Day 4 now so hopefully things will start to improve but I think he’s still getting some new ones.
