Moving to Sheffield

Hi..I could really do with some advice about relocating to Sheffield, I have a teenage daughter who will be starting A levels in September, she has a place at a sixth form school in Sheffield and also one in Brighton (where we currently live) and we have to decide in the next couple of weeks whether to stay or go.... Its too expensive for us to stay in the South East long term and family are all Midlands and Yorkshire.. so Sheffield seems to make sense...it seems friendly with left wing leanings ? but my daughter is bi -sexual, will she be able to be open about that ? we live in a bit of an 'inclusive' bubble here in Brighton..I think it might be a shock for her... which are the best areas to live? any thoughts would be really appreciated. x

IME, Sheffield is quite a diverse city. I know a few LGBQT people who live happily in and around Sharrow/Abbeydale Road/Graves Park. These area border on some extremely affluent suburbs and the Peak District National Park, so property prices may not be as low as you’d like. There are 2 big universities in the city, it has a good population of international, diverse, critical thinking folk associated with the universities. I’d consider the area around Crookes too.

I'm a frequent visitor to Sheffield and have to say I've never found friendlier people anywhere, except maybe Liverpool. I'm seriously contemplating moving there at some point.

I teach in a school just outside Sheffield. There are quite a few (openly) LGBTQ students and they don’t get any shit for it. Staff come down pretty hard on instances of homophobia (as with racism), and the vast majority of students are tolerant and open-minded.

Thankyou for your replies ...very heart warming to hear, and confirm what I already felt from my visits to Sheffield !
its interesting to hear about different areas , I want to be as close to countryside as possible without feeling I am in a suburban desert ( with no pubs or community.

daisyflipped look at areas around Endcliffe Park, Hunter’s Bar, Broomhill, Fulwood, Nether Edge for proximity to the countryside. From Endcliffe Park you can walk up into the Peak District.
