Is this the start of peri menopause or am I ill?

Sorry to put this in chat, I couldn't work out which forum was the right one and hoped people here would have some ideas.

I'm coming up 38. I've had periods since I was 10. I have 3 dc and was sterilised about 18 months ago. My cycles have always been longish but over the past two years have shortened so my average cycle is 25 days rather than 32. Quite irregular, last month was 29 days, this month 24. PMS has changed a bit too, I get really sore breasts and weird backache but abdominal cramping is less than it was. Flow is lighter than it used to be but still pretty heavy on day 1 and 2.

I've been feeling horribly dizzy and weird and sick for a week, period came last night otherwise I'd be peeing on a stick today. I still feel really dizzy, I have vomited this morning and honestly feel exactly like I did in early pregnancy but am definitely not pregnant. Is this just another sign that I am getting closer to perimenopause?

Your periods don’t sound that irregular to me (missing for a couple months, then regular, then missing for a few months - that’s what I’d consider irregular).
The dizziness and vomiting are not symptoms I’d associate with peri menopause either. Plus you are pretty young still. I’d go check with your GP.

scaryteacher · 08/06/2019 11:31

I feel sick in the mornings and as per my GP this week, it can be peri menopause as your hormones fluctuate. It had better be that as dh was snipped decades ago.

PollyPelargonium52 · 08/06/2019 11:33

It may be your blood sugar. Thankfully my periods stopped this year but a couple of years ago I took those suchrose sweets you can get for whenever I felt a bit faint.

Then I eventually went on a good all round menopause symptom supplement made by Vogel called Menopause Support and it seemed to stop the symptoms which was a relief.

I was thinking of trying a supplement for menopause. I'll see if I feel any better over the next week and if not I'll go to my GP.

I know scaryteacher, yesterday afternoon I was sitting there thinking, if he has managed to knock me up again even after the op I am going to a)put him out to stud and b)give up sex. It really does feel like early pregnancy doesn't it!

I always understood peri menopause to mean that your periods would gradually become less frequent until they eventually stopped. How wrong I was. Instead from about 46 yo (and over a few years) I experienced a gradual increase in frequency and heaviness - that was a nasty surprise. They did stop eventually though.
I didn’t experience any dizziness, vomiting etc - might that be a bug?

The pattern of periods does change from time to time. Don't read too much into it. The only way you can definitively find out if you are perimenopausal is by having blood tests. You're probably not. Try not to think about it, the more you do the more symptoms you'll have but do try to keep yourself well with good diet and periods of relaxation, etc.

Hope you feel better soon.

Virus?

Stealthymcstealth · 08/06/2019 18:00

As soon as I turned 30 I started to get symptomatic around ovulation, sickness, ovulation pain etc and my periods changed too, I did my research and found I wasn't the only one. As someone who has suffered since 12 with varying monthly related issues it really irks me that people, even women are so dismissive of hormonal changes.

DontTouchMyCurls · 08/06/2019 18:46

Dizziness is a symptom of perimenopause. I get it myself and I googled it to see if it was. Although I'm 49 and you seem quite young yet. Maybe speak to your doctor just to see if it's something else

anaemia is also a possibility

Marcyx · 08/06/2019 21:56

I have been having hot flushes for quite some time now and didn't realise I was menopausal until my period stopped completely last month just wondering if its really gone for good🙏

Woody1971 · 09/06/2019 01:24

Good morning it's very early is insomnia a symptom because I've been suffer for months get no more than 4 hours sleep a night, the dr has even put me on tablets,Wilkinson do a peri menopause kit you can test your self to see if you are going through early stages,I take there branded menopause tablets and even primrose oil for my monthly circle they are very good I have notice my mood has changed it's up and down I'm 48 this August,I talk to my husband alot about the menopause and tell him my fears, its good to of load !!!!

Marcyx · 09/06/2019 06:12

I also struggle to sleep and am also 48, the heat makes it worse even though its winter now, the mood swigs also not helping, I get irritated easily its so frustrating. How do you use primrose oil?

PollyPelargonium52 · 09/06/2019 06:58

Niacin (vitamin B3) helps sleep at night. I take 300 mg with a glass of water half hour before bedtime.

I started struggling to sleep a few years before my periods stopped.

It was the only thing that worked. Menopause Support by Vogel I take for the fatigue and countless other symptoms. I swear by both.

I will stop both after two years of no periods as I daren't give them up just yet!

ScreamScreamIceCream · 09/06/2019 07:07

As a PP pointed out anaemia or another vitamin/mineral deficiency could be the cause. My periods change when I have a deficiency.

icannotremember · 09/06/2019 13:22

Hmm I was always anaemic in pregnancy, that's worth thinking about. I think I'm going to try a menopausal supplement and see how I feel after a week or so.

I'm sorry so many other women are going through stuff like this. The joy of having a uterus hey

I’ve had horrible symptoms over the past few years (but I’m older than you, at 48). I was also feeling sick in the morning and having really sore boobs when I tried an Oestrogen gel.

I think it’s worth googling the symptoms of oestrogen dominance, and progesterone dominance. When I added oestrogen, I definitely felt worse! So I’m thinking my own levels of it can’t be too low yet.

Also, when I started the Mirena coil I soon felt better, which I guess suggested it brought my progesterone levels back up a bit.

In other words, fuck knows 😆

Woody1971 · 09/06/2019 19:32

Marcy.... I take evening primrose every day for sore boobs,or so I dont get them..!! I also have a fan on every night even in winter :) dont get flushes but like the feel of the fan,

Woody1971 · 09/06/2019 19:36

Hi pollyp52.....I'll try B3 it's worth a try, I've gone months and months with hardly any sleep,

LoveMySituation · 10/06/2019 15:50

I've suddenly started flooding after months of light periods. Does this mean it's getting closer to the end? I'm still only nearly 41, the blood loss is making me feel terrible, is there anything I can do? Am using aspirin instead of Ibuprofen to slow it down. Am dreading next month already

RosaWaiting · 10/06/2019 17:08

Love

you could ask your pharmacy about Tranexamic Acid. I would see your doc as well though. I am on the pill even though I don't need it for contraceptive purposes - heavy periods are just the worst and I wasn't actually flooding, which must be awful.

LoveMySituation · 10/06/2019 19:37

Thanks Rosa, it's slowing down now, hopefully it lasts. Have a drs appointment in a few weeks time already booked (made two weeks ago!) I'll try and get some of the tranexamic acid. It is awful, 30 years of periods and never had anything like it before, huge shock! So quickly too..
