Sex as a mature Singleton

Musing with a recently single friend who now in her 50s is terrified of getting intimate with a new person. I'm sure it's been done to death but please, those out there who embarked on new relationships as a mature person, how did you overcome the embarrassment of having a 50 something body, warts and all? Any men out there in particular. Knowing how mature men still ogle at 20 somethings, would a 50 something body repulse you?

I'm 49, 50 in a couple of months. Yes, I was nervous but it's all fine now. It's the initial reveal that's the most daunting. If you're with the right partner, he'll should be grateful you're willing to get naked with him! My partner is unconcerned by droopy bits and stretch marks and an arse that's really not all it could be. I'm also happy with his body, with all its droopy bits, stretch marks...etc. Grin

"he should" not "he'll should". Saggy arse and bad grammar!

That's pretty much what I told df. That by the tube nakedness was happening, there should already be enough of a relationship going that it's not all about body perfection. We were both pondering the 50 somethings that were confident enough to go out and have casual encounters though 😆

Time not tube. Must check before posting!

Exactly - hopefully by the time you're heading towards the bedroom (or wherever you're planning to 'do it') you'll have a good idea of the kind of person your partner is and secure enough in the relationship that he's not going to bolt as soon as you take your girdle and supportive vest off.

50 something man here. Whilst I appreciate the physical form, I don't want a 20 YO in the same way I don't want a Lamborghini. Simply not practical (or achievable for me). I prefer people with personality, character and wit. I know I'm not 21 or a Greek God, so I don't expect it of anyone else.

the embarrassment of having a 50 something body

Hmm

WTF?

Speaking as a more than 50 year old woman I consider that I’ll have plenty of time for ‘embarrassment’ in my coffin. Why the hell should I be embarrassed about Being Fucking Alive?

donajimena · 07/06/2019 17:37

I'm 'only' 47. My body isn't perfect but its not a bloody embarrassment.

poopypants · 07/06/2019 20:36

OneSmallStep I agree. As a 50 something woman, I don't find men below about 45 particularly appealing. I can see that they are god looking but it's like looking at a pretty picture. Not something I would want to be intimate with. I've told df that. She just feels anxiety as the last time she was with someone new, she was in her early 20s. She's not horribly embarrassed about being in her 50s but it takes some adjusting of your head space sometimes to get back out there after having been with one DP for over 25 years. It's the images plastered all over the media that don't help. When even the 50 somethings shown all look like Halle Berry or Liz Hurley....
