Question for you if you don't wash your hair every day

I'm trying to get out of the habit of washing my hair every day, can't be good for the oils etc. But how in earth do you get your hair to sit?? I've shortish hair, about chin length and when I wake up it looks as if I've been styled by Vidal Baboon. It's sticking up every way possible!! Should I just wet it? Add more mousse? Please help Grin

I still use dry shampoo. I put quite a lot in the night before and then brush it and straighten in the morning. It seems to work better than dry shampoo in the morning.

ShowOfHands · 07/06/2019 15:46

I do nothing. Wash every 4-5 days and inbetween, run my fingers through it if it's a bit sticky uppy.

IHaveBrilloHair · 07/06/2019 15:48

I have to wet mine in the shower and rinse it through anyway, thank you perimenopausal night sweats.
Vidal baboon proper made me laugh though, I look like I've had a fucking herd of them and their red arses through me in the night.

@Jellycat1 I use dry shampoo but IMO it helps to freshen up hair but not with restyling.
I used to have a short bob and it was all over the place in the morning, it needed water & a hairdryer to sort it out.

Justgivemesomepeace · 07/06/2019 15:50

Blast with dry shampoo and quick re style with the hairdryer. Takes about 10 mins max.

tardyheart · 07/06/2019 15:53

I wash mine every few days, just below chin length. Day 1 wash and style, Day 2 run through with straighteners, Day 3 (if lucky) wear up in a clip.

Dry shampoo makes my scalp itchy.

mookinsx · 07/06/2019 16:04

On the non wash days it's pony tail or bun days. It doesn't look like it needs a wash if u can't see it 😂

Jellycat1 · 07/06/2019 16:13

Ah phew thanks for clarifying@kaytee87 Grin

My hair is a chin length bob, it's fine and unruly. What I do is put as much of it as I can (so just the top half really) into a bobble on top of my head overnight. When I take it out it does look like a pineapple but I style it dry using a keratin radiance hot brush, starting with the underneath sections and working up. I takes about 5 minutes, 10 if I'm making an effort, and I can get three days out of a wash just now.

AshQ · 07/06/2019 17:59

I just brush it then wear it in a half up-half down style.

ALongHardWinter · 07/06/2019 18:23

I don't wash my hair every day. In the colder months I probably shampoo it every third day,in the summer,it's every other day. I have pretty dry hair (since the menopause) so it doesn't need shampooing every day. My hair is naturally VERY wavy, bordering on curly (but I have it just below shoulder length and this pulls the curls out somewhat). On the days that I'm not washing it,I brush it out and it looks an absolute fright,so I just stick my head under the shower attachment and wet it through, towel dry it and comb it out,and goes more or less back to normal. I never blow dry it,I can't be bothered as it's so wavy,I'm fighting a losing battle. Plus having an arthritic/frozen shoulder means that I am unable to hold a hair dryer at head height for long enough.

stucknoue · 07/06/2019 18:33

Just brushing or dry shampoo if it's a bit flat. But my hair is naturally wavy

MrsJBaptiste · 07/06/2019 18:44

I wash my hair every 5-6 days 😯

It's thick and curly so although it's a pain to wash when I do wash it, I then just stick some gel in it in the mornings and I'm good to go. Can wear it down for 3 days then in a ponytail for 2 days and it needs a wash.

The scummy thing is that I'm at the gym 4-5 a week and it does get very sweaty! Doesn't smell though according to DH 😁

Another vote for silk pillowcases

InterestingShipNames · 07/06/2019 19:13

I have a very short bob and I just brush it briefly and it’s all in the right place. Thick, heavy, straight hair, though, so it’s natural tendency is to just hang straight down. Trying to get it to curl is a lost cause.

Ronsters · 07/06/2019 19:18

Mine is quite long and I straighten it, I wash it every other day. On the second day I just give it a quick going over with the straighteners.
It starts looking a bit limp/greasy after 2 days. I could go 3 days but would need to wear it up.

PickAChew · 07/06/2019 19:29

Wavy/curly chin length bob. Scrunch it with damp hands, add a little more curling custard with my fingertips, if I was too stingy on wash day, then diffuse for a few minutes. If it's windy ad I'm going straight out, I bypass getting it wet and just fluff it a bit with my fingers, as it gets completely trashed by wind, if it's even slightly damp.

When it was properly short, it rarely managed a second day with product in. Lasted much better without, even if it didn't look as good.

ThatLibraryMiss · 07/06/2019 20:15

YesQueen, which lube do you use? I'm not keen to stand in the sex aisle of Superdrug reading the ingredients lists to see which one's silcone-free - it's bad enough doing that with the hair products.

YesQueen · 07/06/2019 20:38

@ThatLibraryMiss usually lubidoo but I believe water based KY works too!

ThatLibraryMiss · 07/06/2019 21:58

Thanks, YesQueen, I'll try it.

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 07/06/2019 22:03

Chin length bob here.
On non washing days, I stick a few large velcro rollers in it, then get in shower. The steam perks it up.
Leave them in while I partially dress, do makeup, then take them out, finish dressing, brush hair. Job's a good 'un. No faff at all

Aprillygirl · 07/06/2019 22:07

I just spritz it with water from a spray bottle.
