Hi,
A family member mentioned that she prepares "surprise bags" for her children to keep her entertained during long trips.
Since we are going on a long flight with all that it entails I want to prepare a couple for my children (7 and 5yo), but other than colouring/puzzle books I am a bit stuck

What other bits do you/would you pack for them??

Please don't take loombands, as they will be a complete pain in the arse for the cleaning crew.
A small tub of play dough is usually a good shout. As is the 'painting' books, where the colour appears when 'paintbrushed' with water ... if that makes sense!

I hate loom bands.... worst invention ever. They cause a mess when kids have them and now they dry up and crumble into little pieces.

Yes to all above particularly about not getting things out too soon - there’s lots of opportunities to time waste on a flight - the excitement of take-off, drinks service, meals in exciting trays, and the in flight entertainment. My 2 like watching the route map - we made a game of guessing all the stats before we looked. Plan things out so all activities aren’t completed in first 1hr of a 9hr flight.
Make sure you have a portable charger for iPad in case in flight entertainment system isn’t working.
Dobble is a great portable card game. Just a plain pad of paper was great - we drew pictures played games like hangman, made models etc. Sticker books and magazines etc
