Shes 15 months so too young for pharmacy medicine. The rest of us will take ovex tonight and I will take her to the gp tomorrow.

How do I get her through tonight? She was thrashing around and barely slept last night but we have only just realised why! Is there anything I can do to make it less itchy for her?

Poor thing, I’ve heard a blob of vaseline can stop them emerging to lay eggs. That is apparently what causes the itch.

BrainScience · 06/06/2019 20:55

Second a blob of Vaseline. I had similar with ds when he was 18mo. Luckily a couple of days later he got a tummy bug which seemed to flush them out.

So the nurse I saw at the gp practice said there is nothing she can prescribe her. Anyone had a different experience?

I am sure the gp prescribed us the same stuff you can buy at the pharmacy. Maybe ask to speak to the gp

Hecateh · 07/06/2019 15:09

I would ask the pharmacist rather than the GP. The GP covers medication as part of their degree, for the pharmacist the whole degree is about medication. It is a 4 year degree to become a pharmacist.

Agree with the vaseline as well

Definitely talk to pharmacist. I had to get otex last week because of dc2 . He was on the border line of 2 different treatments, so the person serving me asked me to talk to the pharmacist who decided which he should take.

The gp prescribed stuff for my ds when he was 10 months old. He told me it wasn't licenced to sell otc but could be prescribed. When I first went in he said there was nothing he could prescribe but then he checked his medical manual. It was basically ovex but it had a medical name. And it worked a treat!

Jamesonwhite · 07/06/2019 19:37

Eventually got to speak to a GP who has prescribed us something. There was nothing the pharmacist could do as they are not licenced to sell anything for under 2s. Thanks for all the advice everyone! She took the medication about 5 ish- anyone have any idea how quickly this works? Hope we are not in for another sleepless night

Make sure to change out all your toothbrushes, deep clean the bathroom and wash all the beddings.

GeriAtric · 11/06/2019 20:23

If I remember correctly it gets to work quite quickly. You'll start to see them in her poo which is pretty gross but at least means they're coming out. I remember seeing them moving very slowly. They weren't quite dead but obviously couldn't cling on anymore 🤮
Remember to treat the whole family and repeat after 2 weeks.

Make sure you clean clean clean!!! Dd2 has had them twice this year and we have all had a tablet and cleaned everything in site, eggs can transfer really quickly.
