Bought a couple of school dresses from George and have lost receipt. They don’t fit but have tags etc.

Thanks.

They will usually exchange

Yes because it’s own label and can’t be brought elsewhere

Mrsjayy · 06/06/2019 09:34

Yes I have shops usually let you swap over or get a shop credit thing.

AmeliaFolch · 06/06/2019 09:44

You’ll be able to exchange them rather than a get a refund.

Seeline · 06/06/2019 09:46

Really? How do they know you haven't just walked into the shop, picked them off the rail and then go to customer services and ask for refund? How do they know they have actually been paid for in the first place?

Beamur · 06/06/2019 09:47

Some will.
I took back some school trousers to Sainsbury's earlier this week - no receipt. However, as I had the card which I had paid for the shopping with they were able to pull up the shopping I had done with that card from their records and refunded me in full.

notgivinga · 06/06/2019 09:48

Yes I think they will. I bought something in Zara and when I got home didn't like it and it didn't have a tag , I thought no way they would take it back but they did and not even an exchange I had my money back.

When I worked at Sainsburys, we could see if a tag had been scanned. We also matched up the transaction using the nectar card/payment card, if possible, to double-check that it was bought by them.

Mrsjayy · 06/06/2019 09:52

I guess they don't know seeline but It must go on trust but going in stealing a few school dresses taking them back for a bigger size is a hell of an effort Grin

saywhatwhatnow · 06/06/2019 09:59

Primark don't annoyingly!

bookmum08 · 06/06/2019 10:03

They don't have to but usually will give an exchange or voucher. Make sure you fold the dresses nicely and put in a clean bag - not crumpled in the bottom of a manky bag. Go straight to customer services - don't wander aimlessly around the clothing department and ask a random member of staff for a refund. That is the customer services staff job. Don't go into a long winded story. Keep to the facts "I bought these Tuesday but they don't fit. Unfortunately I have lost the reciept. Is it possible to return them please"
The shop doesn't have to do refund so they will be doing you a favour. Treat them with respect.

bookmum08 · 06/06/2019 10:07

Mrsjayy believe me that's a method that many many people use to get free clothing (and other items).

Mrsjayy · 06/06/2019 10:10

I am clearly not made to be a shoplifter if i was stealing I would pick the corect size

Ah but by going to CS with it and coming away with it with a receipt for the exchange then legitimises the transaction.

KatamariDamacy · 06/06/2019 12:16

They gave me a gift card, no problems at all. :-D

If you paid by card thats as good as a receipt.Get it printed out and it shows the transaction and they should give you your money back.

HotChocolateLover · 06/06/2019 19:33

Some shops are fab, others not so. We love Slaters and DH gets all his suits there. He once bought some trainers and unfortunately there was a problem about a month later. Even though he’d lost the receipt they still exchanged them. Great company with really helpful staff.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 06/06/2019 19:36

kata

Oh good Smile

I’ve never had a problem doing that with asda

ThunderOnlyHappens · 07/06/2019 03:13

Clarks were complete tossers about a pair of faulty shoes where I had thrown the receipt away. Eventually, and after much complaining I got a voucher for half the retail value so I can buy one shoe . Arseholes

EmpressJewel · 07/06/2019 07:57

My local Sainsbury's won't exchange without a receipt, neither will their neighbouring store. I was bought an item for Xmas that I wanted to get in a different size (hence no receipt) and they refused.
